Glad to see another person entering the hobby, though it pains me that the entry point is through the m50xs like so many others. If you're every looking for a reasonably priced upgrade, the 58x are 140$ right now.

You can use any material you want, and there are companies that make pads for the HD600 from other materials, but only the original sennheiser pads are the ones that sound consistently like an HD600. Other pads either add some more bass, or change other parts of the sound signature

Not a great thing to say if you wanna make friends here.

Wade has a preference, and he likes treble. which is fine. These are objectively far from balanced and have very uncomfortable treble and sibilance (pronounced “s” sounds). They do staging and imaging ok.

They’re fine with some EQ, (I even have better pads on mine) but there are fine options that even Wade has recommended in the same price range as well.

So it isn’t elitsm, its learned knowledge. This is a very subjective hobby and we all have different tastes.

I have the 32 Ohm version and use them for listening to music and for playing my Kawai digital piano. I don't do any kind of studio work, but I have worn the 770s several times for 3-4 hours without any discomfort at all. They are super comfortable, even though my ear barely fits inside them, so I'm sure I could wear them all day, too.

Yes, I got these on Dankpod's reccommendation. Apparently a bunch of people on here hate them but I can't figure out why other than weird elitism.

Anyway, they sound really good for how cheap they are! Music in general feels much "wider", like every instrument has more room to breathe. Stuff that was kinda crammed-in and "stuffy" on my wireless buds sounds much more crisply distinct. I plan on grabbing a little DAC like the Fiio BTR5 eventually to complement these. Also the Salnotes Zero IEMs look impressive for the price, so I'll definitely check them out too.

The moment they do this is the moment hundreds of Sennheiser enthusiasts will declare them a dead firm.

They are basically one of two big firms still interested (afaik) in the dynamic driver headphone, and IMO if they just add another flagship planar to the market, no one really gains anything. It being their first planar would mean it likely wouldn’t be very good, so they likely wouldn’t gain many customers. They’d lose some “market share” of dynamic driver lovers to Focal, and consumers would lose big because then the DD market is literally just Focal, and their build and product support is terrible.

Honestly, I think a lot of the advancements aren’t going to be in the way of headphones themselves, but how manufacturers and the community test, measure, and discuss headphones.

Headphones.com, LMG, Crinacle and others are getting or already have B&K5128s and I feel like the increased resolution as well as accuracy of the new system is going to be a massive boon to understanding differences between headphones as well as things we’ve had trouble unpacking from FR in the realm of what we call technicalities.

Past that, I don’t know. IEMs are gonna continue optimizing at super low prices until they literally can’t anymore, that’s all I know for sure.

Hopefully Sennheiser releases something great soon because headphones in general—but specifically dynamic drivers—aren’t getting the love they deserve; the market as a whole has really stagnated and I think a lot of us still consider HD800 the biggest single technical leap forward in the modern hobby. I think for many of us, we’re looking for the greatest headphone company of all time to make something to beat HD800 while being well-built and not crazy expensive (looking at you Focal and Hifiman).

These are the focal utopia 2022 headphones. I started my journey with the sennheiser hd800s. They sounded great of course but I realized I wanted something that didn’t focus so much on one thing (soundstage) and wanted more bass. I tried the fostex th900x and they were great I loved them but I saw a pair of open box Stellia’s for 2k so I grabbed them instead. I’m more of a bass head so that’s why I switched to closed back and they were great but the open box had bad rattling when bass would kick in at low and high frequencies so I returned them and got my refund and just said f*cK it saved up a bit more and got these.

They are just great. Don’t know what to say. They are everything I wanted really and they are open back. Amazing sound, awesome meaty bass. The build quality is superb. These are endgame. I’m done. My search is finally over.

I’m using these with the RME ADI-2 DAC FS. it’s totally overkill but that’s how I am lmao. I have G.A.S. Gear acquisition syndrome.

I have proper macro pics taken on the a7rV and Sony GM 90mm macro that I uploading soon.

If anyone has any other questions about them let me know and I’ll try my best to a answer 🫡

Headphones are so subjective, if they weren't there would be one correct choice in each bracket. The real reason to get audiophile opinions is so you can figure out what you like and find that through recs and such. It also helps you save money when you can't test these things. Knowing a headphone has a sound you don't enjoy means you don't have to waste time looking into it.

Also good for when you want a pair of fun or different headphones. It's always fun to experience something that feels much different.
