I use these daily, they really punch above their price range and personally they are the most comfortable headphone i've ever worn. They are just open back enough where your ears don't get warm but still have great bass. I modded mine to have a detachable cable

Nearly every year my gf’s mother gets me dollar store earphones, I feel bad when I listen to them and they sound like absolute ass.

Well the Ananda is no slouch when it comes to Bass, especially with a good EQ. I can't imagine how strong the bass must be if they've added even more lol.

Maybe just some Earbuds then. Ive actually switched to IEMs completely from headphones and have since switched to Earbuds full time and I love it.
I started with VE Monks Plus which are a mids focused bud and then upgraded to some TGXEar Tantulus which are TOTL mids focused buds with a similar but more detailed sound.
