Thanks for your input! Aren’t Beyerdynamic even brighter than Audio Technicas? I might just have to go and find myself a decent HiFi store, and widen my horizon a bit.

I initially planned to spend around 400 bucks. I might stretch it to 500, but the 700 I can find the wp900 for are just a bit unreasonable for the current times in my life. I was happy when I stumbled across the msr7b, as they seemed to tick all the right boxes at an incredible price. But apparently, I’m not as neutral a listener as I thought I was. :-D

I miss the PM-3. I got to try them once but couldn't afford them back then and now they are nowhere to be found. Such a great pair with a wonderful view!

I've got the same pair, too, but I use them with my digital piano. Are they good as normal headphones (flac files and Spotify), too?

Sound quality differences? Unless these are extraordinarily long cables, only the imaginary sort.

The Tree, by The Windmill, from their Tribus album, sounds good on those. So does most jazz (try Portico Quartet with that wonderful hang drum). I also like acoustic and somewhat acoustic music on them, like Fleetwood Mac Rumours, Doobie Brothers Captain and Me, Lucinda Williams Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, etc.

Thanks again. I’ll play around with EQ and give them another week-or-so to make up my mind. They might grow on me still. :-)

The only time you realistically hear a difference with different cables is with sensitive IEMs. Otherwise it'll just look prettier/more comfortable/feels better. And anything that makes you feel better is a W in my book.

It all depends on the impedance curve of the headphones... But in practice, you can expect generally no perceptible difference in the majority of cases.

I have thick green Periapt cables on my 660Ss. Makes absolutely no difference to the sound, but it looks cool.

The XS running thru the BTR5(BAL) is pretty well driven, w about 10 clicks away from max(High gain). But IMO, it doesn't sound that good, too airy to the point where it sounded thin, loses that BASS more like bass now lol. XS thru the A50s is a league above ngl. I have the B2, not B2D, and to compare to 2 is like comparing 1kg of steel and 1kg of feathers. 1 has the soundstage, the airiness, and the bass impact, while the B2 is just clean and surgical. That's not to mention it's 2 different experiences.

Idk about headphones but there's definitely a difference between cables when I listen to sensitive IEMs like Andromeda. Sound change by cables aren't inherenly improvement imo, more like slightly different seasoning.
