Reply to comment by maXXXjacker in good next step after schiit magni/modi stack? by cidit_
You misunderstand, i've had the magni and modi for a good while now (at least a year) and have tried it with the hd6xx and the dca closedX, but now im moving in with someone who i want to introduce to the hobby so im thinking of leaving the schiit stack on their desk and get an upgrade for myself.
Im sorry all of this shouldve been in the posts description
I recently received a foxal elex (which came with the balanced cable) and ive been wanting to give it a shot with the next stack, and im also working my way up to the hd800s which i know will have a b cable too
Should i make a new post with a better description?

Reply to How much of a difference can I expect if I buy boutique aftermarket cables? by undecidables
I go with Hart Audio cables because of the inter connect system. Makes it easy to use different headphones with different amps. This isn’t generally an issue for sane people with 1 or 2 sets of headphones and a single amp.
From a sound perspective the cables make no noticeable difference.

Reply to I bought my fiancee his first proper headphones for Christmas. Bonus a top hat attachment I made :) by RabbitLorx
I let my fiancee borrow my HD660s to try out especially for gaming since I've been boasting about how good they are. Lets just say it was difficult to get them back. He games competitive shooters and was using some cheap earbuds but, after trying out my headphones he got to experience what its actually like to hear footsteps. For music too he enjoyed them a lot. So santa came and gifted him his own pair... With a hat :)
The hd660s are a headphone that is special in my cheesy opinion. I own better headphones (well closed back) and i have tried more expensive open backs like the focal clear mg, utopia, HD800s, Meze Empyrean. They all perform technically better, with some having way better imaging and dynamics but, when i go back to the hd660s i dont feel like they are trash after hearing the big boys. I love how they are cheap because I dont have to worry about handling them super delicately, its anxiety free. The sound is so non fatiguing and non offensive. Its my daily headphone and it literally disappears on my head for hours on end. Thing is, we all want the best of the best headphones. I see myself with the focal utopia in the future however, because of how expensive it is, I might just save for dedicated listening sessions. I would worry about using them too much that i kight break them. Same with any other super expensive headphone. The price adds mental stress. Maybe the issue is that headphones are too expensive for what they are really worth nowadays. I would never pay 3K for headphones. I will only buy flagships second hand with big discounts. Because, ultimately i will get a 100 times better listening experience on my stereo system which costs less. So a super expensive headphone is in my eyes, something i would buy if i had too much extra money laying around. But i still want one just because of the upgrade urge XD Basically, can companies stop overpricing headphones?
The meze 109 pro does look interesting, its not massively expensive and could be a potential upgrade in the far future. Im not in a hurry though. HD660s is chad.
Thank you for reading my rambling. I hope I made some sense XD

Reply to comment by Bal_u in unpopular opinion: TWS earbuds are REALLY going to replace wired by olqerergorp_etereum
Wires are absolutely an issue to many people. I understand audio quality is better with wires in general but when walking my dog the wires kept getting snagged on my coat, pulled out of my ears, and just prevented me fully rotating my head around and the experience absolutely killed any enjoyment of music for me. I think wired IEMS are absolutely better and if you have a desk job or have a situation where they don't bother you then they are the better investment, but if you want the convenience factor or any of the added bonuses like better a better mic or ANC then they are often worth it for those people.

Both are amazing headphones, but the safest option would be the HD600. There's a reason they've been a staple in this community for so long. If you're not very sensitive to treble though I'd take the DT1990 because it is a bit more exciting to listen to (better for genres like EDM or dubstep). Soundstage and imaging is also substantially better on the DT1990
Also, I wouldn't really say you will hear that treble spike even if you do have sensitive hearing. I have excellent hearing and my DT990 (which people say is even worse treble-wise than the DT1990 Pro) sounds perfectly fine to me. Maybe I might experience slight sibilance on 1% of songs, but overall I hear no harshness

that's fine, but they're still good tuned IEMs. I probably wouldn't enjoy some of them either, but I can see why so many people do

Likely none at all. Not having to send as much power is fun for balanced but most people have short cable runs so it isn't going to matter. Would be more fun to use that money on beer.

If a good dac/hpa is in your budget, get one. If it’s not, I wouldn’t sweat it too much. If you’re getting the volume you need, the difference between an external dac/amp and a solid headphone jack like the iPad’s is probably placebo.

It's entirely possible that, with a blindfold on, you might not notice any difference between Nonni's secret recipe and Hunt's out of the can, but then...you don't eat spaghetti with a blindfold on, do you?

>sn’t it weird how you like Custom wrapped cables that cost $50-120 for no perceived sound quality yet you would call it “sound betta” for people that are willing to spend THE SAME AMOUNT of $$ for perceived quality?
Probably the best investment as far as improving your listening experience is reefer, although there too...is the High Times centerfold really worth more than good ol' Reggie?

Next steps is to sit back and enjoy your magni/modi stack.
On another note, kind of a waste of money to buy a balanced cable when your magni/modi stack does not support balanced input or output. You also do not mention what kind of headphone you have.
Whether or not you would even benefit from a balanced output is questionable and would largely depend on the dac and the amp.
For most headphones magni/modi is all you will ever need, just as Schiit says.

Try disabling audio enhancements in the Windows sound settings. If your OEM configured it to have a bunch of signal processing enabled by default and that’s the difference you’re hearing, that applies to all connected audio devices in my experience.
