I was under the impression that power and volume is the same thing. If that’s not the case you could theoretically built an amplifier that has tons of power and very little volume and vice versa, right?

Yeah its more portable. Imho the dt 700 is better for metal - more soundstage, simply more detailed.

Aside from the fact that most modern well engineered DACs are audibly transparent, there's also the fact that you're comparing 2 DACs by the same company. FYI, the m1 macbooks are almost as well messing as the apple dongle.

A good budget friendly closed back would be the AKG K371. I owned the MSR7 and would say that the K371 makes for a good complementary pair.

For metal I would really recommend looking into the 1990 or 1770. The 1990 is just a tad bit better but the 1770 has great isolation as a close back.

I've blindly A and B tested multiple cables and it wasn't surprising at all that there was no difference at all between them.

A friend insists that his weird cotton wrapped cable enhances treble and whatnot.. I would say it only enhances the seller's bank account.

Why not? The HD800s have really damn good soundstage and I don't know any other headphone that comes close at its price point. But the sound signature isn't quite my cuppa tea. So why not fix it literally for free? If I want a perfect headphone I'd have to buy the HE-1. But I don't have that kinda money, so I tune what I DO have to more suit my liking.
