i have the HD660S going on 4 years! Just got the HD800S about 3 months ago but I still find myself going back to the 660s from time to time mainly for hiphop. My plan was to sell them after a few sessions compairing both and I just couldn't let them go. 800s is like a banana split with all the toppings. But sometimes you just want vanilla with chocolate syrup.

Imo you should get Moondrop Quark DSP if you're first getting into the hobby, they're excellent sounding iems for like $15. Always good to test the waters before going deep into the hobby. You won't find much that sounds better than those, especially at that price range, after that it's just mild differences in tuning and of course build quality.

That's awesome. I always enjoy seeing people experience the miracle of high-end audio for the first time. The 109 Pro is quite the looker, and sounds amazing as well. Given how robust and serviceable it is, and Meze's top notch customer support, I'd say it's a complete package. I absolutely love mine.

Thank you for the most excellent explanations and advice!

I think at some point I will try getting a dedicated balanced dac and a more potent fully balanced amp down the road. I think the only balanced dac in the house I have is from my EF400 and as for a balanced amp, I have a Monoprice THX 788 which is not really up to the task for the HE6se V2. I also have too many 2v DACs from wanting to experiment with different chip implementations, got a new Modi Multibit 2 from Schiit arriving this week as well.

After reading your reply here, I did a lot of thinking and the BasX A2m seems like a silly good deal for the amount of power on tap after the jumper install. I highly doubt I could do any better at the price as traditional headphone amps start ramping up to astronomical prices for the same amounts of power. I decided to pull the trigger on it!

Yeah thats good to hear;p What also makes the somewhat distinct from other brands is that //every// part (every screw. The driver is easily taken out and replaced) is replacable. And beyerdynamic keeps spare parts for a //long// time.

Yes i know about diminishing returns at a certain point. The upgrade from 50€ headphones (which i never had, as the dt 770 were my first) to 150€ and then to 250€ gets smaller at a certain point. I read somewhere that in the very high price range you pay a lot more marginal improvements.

Thought about getting the dt 1770 instead. A dealbreaker was the 250 ohm impedance as they should both be an upgrade to dt 770 and alternative to vmoda m100 (which i really like, but its a tad to bassy for some stuff, and the soundstage is smaller. ). Could have had the dt 1770 for 470€ but 200€ less is 200€ less. And i really hate taking my amp everywhere lol. 3 things idid not enjoy about dt 770 1)3m fixed cable.. 2) it looks simply not nice 3)impedance so it fixed this plus the sound/tuning.

Yesterday i listened 3h (after midnight) to lots of my usual stuff (see comment) theyre fantastic soundwise.

Edit: i also thought about replacing my (8 years old) shure se215 iems by a more neutral souning iem in the same pricerange (so not more then 150€). Possibly sennheiser ie300 as its reduced by 100€ on amazon. Or i have to buy a new driver for the right side which i guess will cost a lot. But i dont care about iems that much anymore, as the only advantage is isolation (for me) compared to headphones (which sound wider, more lively. You know it). So i might not.

Edit2: the slightly recessed trebele or muffled souning is better than the high accentuated treble on say dt770. When sou say listen to some very badly mixed black metal it simply hurts in your ears.

DX5 has an XLR out, it's just not balanced.

If you have stuff wired for 2.5, you can use a XLR-2.5 adapter, this what I use on my main amp for stuff I have wired for 2.5, it has XLR, 4.4 and 6.35. I leave that plugged in as I have stuff wired for 2.5, 4.4 and 6.35 but not XLR.

I also have 6.35->2.5 and 6.35->4.4 adapters, so I can use the balanced stuff on my single ended amps as well. This works in that direction, it's the other direction you can't go (balanced output to single ended).

You need 2.5 for the BTR5 and no desktop amp is going to have a 2.5 output so you need an adapter anyway. Like you usually need a 6.35->3.5 adapter for single ended, they are a bit bigger than those but same idea.

You can also get 3.5->2.5, if you got something like a Topping DX3 Pro+ that only has 3.5.

well, ill say this, the XS sounds really really good, never for a second that I doubt the purchase. BUT the fit is a hit or miss, my coconut is on the HUGE side of the big. I maxed out the R70x wing suspension system they have(I have to bend the headband). So I thought oh so the XS has to fit me like a glove... NO, fit every loosely(could be good or bad)even for big ass head, pressure point under the ear-lope(after 2-3hr).

I haven't try the BTR7 yet, no demo unit sadge. But I wouldn't get it either, the bigger form factor doesn't fit my use case. cuz I clip my BTR5 to the "pen holder" slot of my shirt while the BTR7 doesn't have a clip/case.
