At the end every year the co-founder of Schiit audio, Jason Stoddard, makes a post talking about how the year went for the company. It's a great and honest insight into how the company deals with issues like supply disruption and how the economy effects their business. Everyone should take the time to read the post even if you're not an audiophile.

AKG K7xx lineup is kinda weird in how much power it needs. Based on my personal experience with K702, while it has a somewhat low impedance, it also has somewhat low sensitivity. With all of that, they need more power, than sennheiser hd600, and if that power is not met, they won't sound right.

When connecting them into my Fiio K5 pro i have to turn on hight gain and rotate the volume knob to 12 o'clock to get my usual listening volume, if i want to go "loud" i'l have to turn it all the way to 2-3 o'clock. Sennheiser hd600 are already loud at high gain, and i mostly use them on medium. K702 do sound absolutely fine, and nothing weird is going on with sound.

However, connecting them directly into my phone, or my old fiio ka1, they become a lot brighter than they're supposed to be. Getting volume is one thing, but getting the right sound is a whole different.

It might just me saying what i seen in a dream, but i think that this line of headphones has some weird drivers, which want not watts, but volts, which not all sources could give. They're also low impedance low sensitivity, wich, usually, makes headphones hard to drive. HD600 sound absolutely fine from my phone, but K702 i only use with BTR5 and K5, where thay sound the way they should.

Given that K712 and K702 are very similar, and the biggest difference that actually changes the sound signature is the memory foam pads, we might as well say that K712 will have the same behaviour.

Brent Butterworth at SoundstageSolo thought they sounded fine with good instrument separation; you can read his review to see the music he liked it with. When he measured it after writing the review, he noted that they measured really weirdly, so he said that even though he liked it a lot, it's something that the prospective buyer should try before putting down cash.

It's very curious, because I've also heard impressions that they sound muddy and dull. I briefly followed the Head-Fi thread, and the opinions there were also very polarized; people either thought it was garbage, or it was quite good.

Honestly dude you're going to get used to the better audio. It sucks and you'll always look back to that bliss but there ain't much you can do lol. Like people say, listen to the music, not the hardware or else you'll get pulled into the trap searching for the better stuff. Which depending who you are could be fine or not be fine

Its pita working on such a small screen. Rather get a bt receiver like Fiio BTR3K or Qudelix 5K, paired with short cable for your iems and clipped on the collar. A match made in heaven.

And use your phone as a player, a very flexible one regarding player apps and system wide GEQ/PEQ apps. Bluetooth with LDAC is practically indiscernible from cable, so you wont be really missing out in that regard.
