Headphones do sound different if they're properly powered, you're not saying that this statement is wrong, do you?

I was using K702 with ka1 for about a month, after which i decided to buy K5 Pro, and i remember very well, that, suddenly, my headphones got a lot bassier, to the point that i wasn't shure if i liked it. Another thing with adaptation is that it doesn't work as well, when you're constantly using different headphones, and i do.

AKG headphones are quirky, but i just have to disagree with "They don't sound right nonetheless", as there are as many tastes as there are people, and there sure are people who like bright sound, like me. I will, however, try them with my phone later today, just in case that my memory is playing games with me.

Well but this is just the thing. Some people would absolutely disagree and say that if they have the same bass FR, they won't have different bass response. But others would not! It's one of the most heated disagreements in headphonedom.

Here are my two points:

First, as I said, it's not always so much how much louder the bass is as a whole as how smoothly it transitions into the mids. And this can affect the character of the bass a lot. Second, if you're looking for "fast" bass, that can boil down to treble response too. Bass instruments will have higher harmonics that are affected by higher frequencies, and these can also affect the impression of what sounds clean or not—whether these higher harmonics are rendered accurately.

But I would probably have to try a good planar headphone before I could authoritatively say of myself "no it's just FR but more nuanced" or "there actually is a je ne sais quoi to the bass texturing."

The Harman target isn't actually flat. If you go back and read the research, Olive et al started with their own "good speakers in a good room" and then took input from a group of trained listeners on tweaking the bass and treble response.

So weird that they messed up the headband like that. Yeah, the BTR7 is too big. Had it offered something new and amazing it might have been worth it but no, that and the lack of clip puts me off. I've ordered a Qudelix as almost everyone says it's the best solution.

Unfortunately that’s not really enough to go on. The only concrete detail a few minutes of internet sleuthing turned up suggests the headphone out is limited to less than 1Vrms, which is pretty low for these AKGs. So, probably less than ideal, but the extent to which that is the case is unclear, since there’s no good numbers for what its headphone out can do.

>With all of that, they need more power, than sennheiser hd600, and if that power is not met, they won't sound right.

They don't sound right nonetheless. The trick with all AKG owners is that they adapt to the sound of headphones in process of changing amplification and make conclusions that amp helps, which is a wrong conclusion (with ANY headphone).

The DAC (Digital/Analog Conversion) component isn't going to make any audible difference. The 32 ohm DT770s still aren't super efficient (impedance alone means nothing) and I have found some devices that can not drive them to adequate listening levels. If you find yourself turning all your digital volumes up most of the way for sensible levels, an external amp or DAC/Amp combo might yield benefits. The big win would be the convenience of an analog volume knob and jack on top of your desk.

Ah I was worried about this honestly. I ordered them because of their reputation for good soundstage and imaging and I was on a budget. I guess I'll have to hear how they sound on my phone or on my laptop. Thanks!

Also while I'm here do you happen to have any recommendations for headphones under 300 USD? Or an amp for under 50? If not then thanks anyway! :)
