STFU. This setup is far from basic and would be ecstatic to hear a friend has them. Schitt Audio is a classic and well deserved champion of the industry. AKG has been around forever and I have never hear anything bad about them ever. And the Colors match, which is prolly the easiest way to my heart when it comes to a setup lol. Too many men in this hobby when music is enjoyed equally by both. Always glad to see a girl here. Enjoy your awesome setup nothing basic about it.

If you're strapped for cash, no. The AE isn't a straight upgrade and more of a sidegrade. That said if you like more bass, then the extra $40 or so for the AE makes sense to me when you're already spending that amount. You could also wait for a sale. I'm sure it'll drop to like <$200 some time.

Yea it's interesting, I noted that as well in my measurements. The upper mids on the AE don't have as much of a jagginess to it while the original does.

In the original Timeless, I would never have been able to tell you that it graphs jaggy like that. With the AE, I don't think it's really all that audible but I'll admit that my focus is often drawn to the bass rather than the mids with the AE. IMO, the upper mids is more than fine on both so I don't stress the measured differences.

I think if you're mainly using it for commuting, the AE might be better because the bass boost helps with the outside environment which tends to be abundant in low frequencies.

Personally though, if you want a fun beater the CCA CRA or CRA+ is the way to go for <$50. $200+ is a little beyond the beater range for me :)

Most measurements I have seen, including yours, the upper mids look a lot smoother in the AE.

Is that difference audible at all? You can see in all these measurements the OG has a very sharp dip at 3-3.5kHz, I have it and mine has that as well. I can't say I really hear it in music, but it seems gone in the AE, smoothed over. Both that dip, and its absence in the AE, seem consistent over multiple people's measurements.

I bought mine on Amazon, which has a 30-day return policy if that helps you at all. I've listened on both iPhone with Apple dongle and my desktop system and I can't see anyone would want to attenuate the bass. The V-shaped sound, from rumbling sub-bass to intricate detail in the highs, is what makes them so amazing.

I don't love the stock tips, so I replaced mine with COMPLY Isolation TX-400 Memory Foam Tips, also available on Amazon. These IEMs are far from the most comfortable I own, but they're fine.

And when you say bias, I think you mean subjective and absolutely -- I probably have different preferences than OP. I'm sure both IEMs are fantastic and these take EQ reasonably well if that's an option for you.

perhaps there's a bias if you got it before the original timeless. op's review has a comparison between the two and he prefers the OG timeless more. man. this fucking hobby istg. i feel like the only thing i'm paying for is the upgraded cable (and maybe the waifu stand). here's some perspective. i can either a.) buy the og timeless + chu (for the spring tips) or b.) buy the timeless ae. option b is still more expensive and i can swap the chu for a cheaper dongle dac (like the moondrop click although idk how good that is). the price difference is really what makes this a difficult choice.

Been checking out more stuff with them the last couple of days, and I think these headphones might renew my interest in metal. The separation is incredible for how busy metal can get, separate guitar riffs and bass and vocals all stay clear even on metal that isn't produced super well, and unlike some open cans I've used instruments are still close enough together that everything still feels cohesive when guitars are supposed to be playing off each other. Guitars also just sound fantastic on these, they're great at letting you hear detail in the tone and effects without making them overly aggressive or fatiguing.

This is the problem with this hobby; it's extremely subjective.

Some people can't tell a difference between a $100 pair and a $1000 pair and some can tell the differences between different amps.

If they're not worth it to you, returning them or selling them would be my advice.
