Try EQ before making a decision. My 560S sounds much better with proper EQ. I use a Qudelix-5K with the 560S EQ and love the results. I run the Qudelix-5K connected to a Schiit Magni 3+B and this setup is excellent.

Currently with my mic Interface which actually has a really decent DAC with a pretty low noise floor. That goes into an amp + headphone splitter combo, I still have enough head room to really push them but I might try to find my old O2 in the basement.

But it was pretty important to me to have something that’s easy to drive since I don’t have any amp with me when I’m somewhere else making music. Shitty laptops and analog gear with an headphone out as an afterthought are the norm. Maybe I’m getting a mini amp later on.

So this is news to me.. The OEM earpads for $1500 headphones are these small Sony Walkman looking crap pads??

I've never seen these headphones in person (mostly because poor) but i would have thought they would have come with something a little more premium.

Some people exaggerate how much better expensive headphones are beyond the $200/$300 price point. I think the problem isn't the XS. Your perception of their quality is maybe more realistic than some hyperbolic online reviews. I used to own the XS but returned it for comfort issues. It sounded great! But like any headphone I've ever worn, a basic home theater system will blow them out of the water, so it's good to have that in your mind when shopping for new headphones in the future. Check your expectations.

First impressions after moving from the Sennheiser RS120 to this setup: I'm blown away by the sound stage being so much wider. I owned a set of Sennheiser HD558 for years until they stopped working so I had completely forgotten what open back headphones sound like.

The Magni and Modi have been something I've wanted for a long time but I would never justify the price of both the stack and the headphones as a regular purchase so I asked my wife for them this Christmas and she came through!

I definitely am happy with all three products and will stick with them for a while, the next update will be a pair HD8xx most likely.

I typically spend a week with one headphone, then change it to another for another week. I mostly work from home so I can cycle them but I think that after listening to one set of cans for some time you need a bit of time to adjust to the new sound so giving them a week seems fair. Also, I can appreciate sound differences more as well as other nuances like build or comfort. I do not have any order specified, I just pick one at the beginning of the week, usually one that I haven't used for a while and also something different enough from the one I was using prior.

Amp won't make any significant difference (Since the problem seems to be the sound signature). You can either give it some time or eq.

If you know what is bothering you then eq won't be difficult. It will take lot of time the first time. But after that you can use your eq preset without any bother.

The peak at 5000 is the serious killer, it ruins vocals and pushes then into uncanny valley. Luckily they EQ very very well.

Try this EQ https://i.imgur.com/ELAEvJU.jpg and don't even bother with the bass mod, it's a bad mod. Once I found this EQ I have not been able to listen to them stock. Fixes the weird voicing issue and gets the bass to be present and fun.

My T1 can't handle EQ for shit whereas this one never clips or sounds stressed.
