Gaming in general, sure, from an immersion perspective a wide soundstage is great. But specifically in the context of competive FPS, its really not that important, in fact I personally find an overly diffused soundstage can be detrimental at times.

It's worth remembering that pro players are more often than not running IEMs or even standard gaming headsets. Also, the guys you mentioned aren't competitive gamers, in fact, crinacle himself has made this exact point, not so much specifically regarding soundstage, but just generally that it really doesn't matter that much beyond having a neutral/bright leaning sound signature.

It's all preference at the end of the day, there's nothing wrong with the 800S, but if you're spending over a grand on a pair of headphones in the hope that they'll make you win games more often, you're gonna be disappointed... And poorer.

Lol then you're in the wrong audiophile circles... An actually audiophile knows the Airpod Max and especially the new Airpod Pros (2nd Generation) are tonally more accurate than some headphones/TWS that are in the same price bracket. And have class leading transparency mode....

And I don't even call myself an Apple person

Honestly the Airpods Max is a really good Bluetooth headphone that pairs excellently with Apple Ecosystem stuff so if that's you, then the Airpods Max is perfect but if you're a non Apple Ecosystem person then the Apple Airpods Max is bottlenecked by its lack of other Bluetooth codecs. Mostly the high bitrate codecs...

So my recommends are the: Mark Levinson 5909 or the Focal Bathys

But note that the Airpod Max still beats them when it comes to the non sonic stuff like ANC and Ambient mode.

I'm of the opinion the Schiit Magni/Modi stack is all you'll ever need. Full transparency, I am biased towards buying American. I've never heard a JDS Labs product, but I've only ever heard great things about them- so that's an option too. You can't go wrong with either.

Aside: Amps and DACs make such a minute difference and should be purchased mostly for the features you need (balanced, preamp, bluetooth etc.). I've gone up to $3k amps and DACs and the difference is inconsequential (to me). I'm also not a golden ear and I genuinely believe there's a variance in people's ability to hear. So I hesitate to proclaim all amps/DACs sound the same.

Yup, that https://www.bluetoothgoodies.com/a2dp/ LDAC thing for PC is new IIRC, like maybe first available this second half of 2022.

Windows/Microsoft is legit like so slow with Bluetooth updates (and for some people it's sometimes really buggy with like blue screens and so on), they kinda said AAC will be available for Windows 10 but then they just made it exclusive to Windows 11, lol. So those of us with the Intel AX200/210/etc. Bluetooth/WiFi (PCIe) cards basically only have regular AptX (and AAC if on Windows 11). Hopefully they integrate LDAC and AptX Lossless soon but ya it'll probably not be in the near future, lmao.

Anyway there's actually LDAC USB transmitter dongles in development. It'll first be available on Taobao and then a few weeks or so later, AliExpress and other places.

In addition there's also the Bluetooth 5.3/AptX Lossless/etc. transmitter dongles (there's receivers or neckband adapters and so on now that allow you to get AptX Lossless with your wired IEMs and headphones, etc.), but sadly they are delayed. Wait for those transmitter dongles as they'll probably only cost $20-30 or so, maybe ~$50+ if they think people will pay that much.

So ya no need to pay ~$130 for the LDAC through USB from the FiiO BTA30 Pro (and probably its successor, if there's a BTA40 in the near future).

I'm very happy about the purchase. I love the convenience of Bluetooth, but i wanted to use my few cans and headphones that I already liked. This is the best of both worlds for sure, and I'm pleased as heck. I was happy to hear such detailed base and soundstage the moment I started using it.

Ive mostly used a dongle for the past couple years, except with my speaker setup where I use UAD gear that's meant for mixing music, but I almost exclusively use that with my speakers. I like lounging on the couch or reading a book with headphones. Highly recommended to anyone who wants an affordable, powerful dac that also works Bluetooth!
