I have HD600 + BTR5 + Android phone

  • AptX - listenable

  • LDAC 660 - good

  • LDAC 990 - great

  • USB + direct access (UAPP player), bypassing system mixer - well, now we're talking. Much, much better than BT, probably because of bypassing system mixer. Basically different league

Sidenotes:

  • On cheaper headphones, e.g. HD598, difference is slim
  • I still use it via BT on the go

Electrostatic headphones have impedances to the tune of 100,000 ohms. 1500 ohm is not that big a deal as long as long as they are either fairly sensitive (which is probably the case for crystal radio headphones), or you got a high voltage amplifier (do not need much current at this point).

Depends on the construction and materials but generally yes. Glue melts and excessive sun to leather can cause cracking. Though leather do need conditioning every once in a while. Just to be safe go with air dry.

The 6X0 series is tuned really close to the Harman Target, except in the bass, as expected from open backs.

If you want to tune your headphones to a certain target, use the Headphone comparison tool in crinacle's website and export it to Peace. Slide equalizer are too unreliable.

>Apparently the tubes need to burn in? Or is that a myth?

In my experience this is only the case if your tubes are humming. Sometimes new tubes hum out of the box and after 24-48 hours of simply leaving your amp on (in my case without the power tube) the hum can disappear. On some tubes I was able to get rid of the humming completely, but with some others it didn't work.

Some manufacturers say that their tubes sound best after 100-200 hours of use, but honestly, just enjoy, lean back and if there's change then see it as a nice bonus. I wouldn't leave the amp running because tubes don't work forever and can become microphonic and whatnot. My Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB I bought used started whistling like a tea kettle after a while, as an example.

Btw in my experience I haven't noticed a tube changing in sound yet and I've tried a few.

Edit: getting rid of stock tubes is almost always a good plan though.

This post has been removed. Please note the following rule:

>Rule 2: Ask purchase help questions in the Shopping and Setup Help Desk found at https://reddit.com/r/headphones/about/sticky > >Requests for product opinions, comparisons, and general purchase advice must be made in the dedicated Shopping and Setup Help Desk found at /r/headphones/about/sticky instead of a new post.

You may also use r/headphoneadvice but please search their resources and familiarize yourself with their rules first before posting.

What questions are considered purchase advice?

  • A request for product suggestions, comparison requests, or opinion requests fall under the purchase advice rule. These can often be found by searching first.

  • Any suggestion or comparison request pertaining to headphones, IEMs, DACs, amps, or other accessories should be directed to the purchase help thread or r/headphoneadvice.

  • Asking the subreddit to help make a decision to buy a product does fall under this rule (e.g. "should I get dekoni pads for my HD650?").

Why does this rule even exist?

What if the link doesn't work?

  • The post can usually be found on the top r/headphones, and titled Shopping, Setup, and Technical Help Desk.

Yup. Same for me. I own an old 16-bit Sony TDA-based DAC and it rolls off highest frequency content a bit but other than that.. even an age old DAC sounds just about identical.

I would hope so :)

Nice! Some people say there are huge differences in DACs but so far I haven't been able to notice that.. When something costs thousands it has to sound subjectively different I guess.

An well about amps, the FiiO K5 pro's amplification seems relatively clean to me, but my Xduoo TA-26 does a slighlty better job, lik 5-10%, depending on the genre of music I am listening to. Just fuller and more lifelike. Was it worth the money? Probably not.. but the slight improvement is very welcome.

It's super sick that the K7 costs so little while being so similiar to the K9 pro.
