I went and got Covid right before the new year and I’m isolated in my bedroom. Luckily my Xduoo MT-502 just showed up so I can chill out with some David Bowie in my convalescence bed.

I flipped out my Schiit Magni which was having some channel imbalance problems for the Xduoo MT-602 to try out some tubes. I have some GE JAN 5654W tubes in the way. My Schiit Modi DAC and Loki equalizer feeds the amp with a WiiM Mini as the source. Fantastic cheap steamer.

The headphones are my 20 year old Sennheiser 580s with new pads. I keep pondering upgrading to some Sennheiser 6xxs but the 580s still sound awesome.

It is overhyped. But it’s FR from 90hz -3.5k is literally perfect. And it’s very comfortable. It just isn’t particularly fast, detailed, and has dim boring subdued VEILED treble. It also has poor soundstage for an open back.

I have long wished that sennheiser would have released an HD8__ edition which had the HD600’s FR from 90hz-3.5khz, instead of the scooped upper mids we got in the HD800/800s, that is used to simulate an even larger soundstage, close to the AKG K812.

>when I’m selecting a video monitor at home or on set the only criteria are accuracy, dynamic range and colour gamut

Is this really true? When I'm selecting a tv or monitor, I need to consider what size the space it's going in will support, and whether it's a primarily bright environment (brightness needs to go high on the monitor) or primarily dark environment (blacks need to be particularly black on the monitor). The tv I have has a bunch of different preset modes I can put it in- cinematic, gaming, soap opera, etc and enthusiasts are carefully considering this stuff before buying whichever video device they go with. It's the same here with audio devices, except the environment is literally your head.

Leaving more or less anything out in direct for sunlight for too long is likely to cause some sort of UV degradation. However, over the period of time that it takes them to dry... I'd say unlikely.

Dry them in the shade for peace of mind.

See if there’s a loose hair or something between the pad and the driver? I think that normally ends up producing more of a buzzing sound, but it’s possible something got lodged in between maybe

Because they are. They go completely over the ear and are very comfortable. Big improvement in that regard.

They do for sure affect sound, but not by much. The sound appears more open and spacious, it gives the illusion of improved soundstage. And about sound signature - I used lately a mild EQ to further flatten the sound, and with the the new pads i preffer it without EQ. So I guess it works for me, but that's rather subjective.

I’ve been using the same setup for a few months now. Best bang-for-buck I’ve experienced thus far experimenting with koss + pads combos.

From my experience with these: If the ear-pads are moved or shifted from their position on the driver housing, even in the slightest, it drastically changes the perceived treble response. They become prone to “tunneling” the high end freq., causing them to sound quite harsh so I had to experiment with the position of the pads at first. Did you attach the pads with any form of adhesive? and if so what did you use?
