Very nice bro. I have xonar essence stx soundcard, 12 years old at this point. If it breaks, probably also gonna go with Fiio. They've been doing the engineering thing way before people even cared about it.

If you don't have any DAC/AMP then go with 32 ohms 770 pro. If you have a decent DAC/AMP go with 80 ohm 770 pro.

If you have a good DAC/AMP, and if you prefer bright and open sound, go with 990 pro.

If you have a good DAC/AMP, and if you prefer bassier pairs and concern about noise leakage, go with 770 pro, either 80 ohms if you don't like coiled cables, and 250 ohms if you prefer coiled cable. Remember, impedance rating doesn't mean much. both 80 ohms and 250 ohms doesn't sound different for most people. 80 ohms will be much easier to power. The 250 ohms 770 pro is a bit difficult to power, you would need some good amps for them.

In the case of the Abyss, he both measured it wrong and it's also just a bad headphone, intentionally compromised to produce a certain coloration (which to many people is enjoyable, I suppose).

It's also a bit tricky to gauge what constitutes "correct" measurement because the Abyss headphones are intentionally ported, meaning even perfect seal on rig produces some bass rolloff. Even so, the distortion there is still unacceptable for the price, that much I agree with.

Another example of him measuring wrong is any of his Stax reviews. You'll see that his Stax plots all have extreme rolloff in the bass, which just is not the case when properly fitted on a human head.

It's known in the community that the contour of Stax pads makes it hard to seal properly on traditional measurement rigs which do not have malleable human skin. They're designed this way to avoid needing any clamping force, preventing pressure and damage to the delicate diaphragm.

Despite having this explained, Amir hand-waves it away by claiming this is also how he hears them on his head. Which is within the realm of possibility of course (and is a fair criticism to make that the headphone is not suitable for some head shapes), but is not representative of the real performance of the headphone in normal circumstances.

Then there's his Stax amplifier measurements, where he argues with Kevin Gilmore after being told that his measurements are totally wrong due to using an incorrect load, forcing the amps to drive something they were never intended to.

It's a common theme for Amir to double down on his incorrect takes and try to discredit people who criticize him.

I've noticed that even a lot of his less questionable measurements end up being incomplete, and he basically just measures whichever plots he feels like at the time, instead of providing a consistent test suite to compare different amps with. Just look at how many times someone in the comments has to ask him to make a 32-tone FFT, for example.

Then for the longest time he never bothered to get a balanced 32 ohm load, making it impossible to compare balanced with single-ended amps from his measurements. It would've been as simple as soldering two resistors to an XLR connector, but he never bothered.

It's lazy and unacceptable for someone claiming to be "scientific".

I wouldn't care as much if it weren't for his large following, so the misinformation ends up being propagated far and wide and defended by people who understand even less about audio gear.

It just seems to be happening more and more frequently. Without a vent I imagine it could stress the driver over time and potentially lead to warping. I would have gotten perforated pads if I had known this and the pad creator should be advertising the potential issue. Idk maybe im over thinking it.

Well it doesn't damage Stax anyway, I wouldn't think it would here either. Still, it's a very annoying thing to have to just deal with. It's fixable through driver design, but that obviously doesn't help here.

Bought one back when I was in high school for my first fidelity set up. I think I was around 16 at the time, and I am turning 26 this year so my 810 K has 10 years under his belt I gave it to my brother, and he has been using it ever cents, but it still works like a charm

I auditioned a pair of the LCD-4Z a few months back and was completely blown away by how bad those headphones are, the audio quality was literally on a par with a pair of Sony ear buds, not to mention wearing them for a few hours would probably give you concussion, not sure how they are managing to sell any units.

Funny thing is, I just got the DT 770 Pro in November lol, Christmas came wayyyy too early for me this year. I found the K701 on Amazon for $230, which is what it should've cost. But over here, music stores wants $525 for them, even on the official AKG website. So I couldn't hold back against that %50 off Amazon was offering.

I hope you get your pairs soon! I can confirm, Mio got great taste, in bass guitars and headphones. I do wonder, was it her seiyuu Yoko Hikasa choice or if it was handed to the character. Because if I remember correctly, most of the songs (and probably the incredible bassline) were written by Mio herself. Yoko Hikasa actually learned how to play a lefty bass. That's probably my favorite thing about K-On.

I want a pair of these but cannot possibly justify them right now after buying new cans on Black Friday. Would love to stumble upon a good deal for them later this year.

Partially because I really like my K240s and would love more premium AKG sound.

Mostly because K-ON!! is an easy top 10 anime imo & they'd look nice next to my Mio nendoroid.
