Great buy.

But one small heads up; the terminology for noticing different instruments clearly in a mix is under the umbrella term imaging of which there are two sub sections, separation and layering.

Soundstage is just the perception of grandness in how the audio is presented... So if it sounds like it's coming from a small room, a larger hall, a stadium and so on... That is soundstage... Has nothing to do with locating instruments in a 3D space

Also what EQ do you use, u/forthelol?

I strongly recommend the CCA CRAs if you want more bass out of an ultra budget IEM. This price point is really difficult to get bass out of because of the bill of materials being much lower.

If you want more bass, you kinda have to go to the $30-50 range. The Blon BL3 might be what you are looking for, as it has much less treble and treble extension.

I would also highly recommend learning how to use EQ software, as it lets you tweak how your IEM sounds.

That's great that you noticed a difference because I cannot tell a difference between the Apple Dongle and the Topping DX3 Pro+ and FiiO KA3, all three of which I own.

Try this EQ on the K702

The pair I had sounded tinny due to the push at 5khz so I could not stand to listen to them without EQ. But man can they hold an EQ without distortion. The bass is much better with this EQ than they were with the sticker mod (don't even bother, it ruins bass detail/texture and makes the treble way harsher).

Hmm I hadn't considered that this might be contentious. The difference in sound, while not huge, is IMO enough to be well out of the "subjective" category. Is it going to be worth $100+ to everybody? No, but to me it's a significant upgrade.

But but but they sound good, that's all that matters! /s

And this is what I disagree with crinacle's ratings the most, the fact that his only criteria is sound, and not the QC, build, comfort, etc. Personally, the best sounding gear don't mean a damn if they don't fit your head/ear, you can't wear them for 30 minutes without pain, or they just outright break.

I've used use an M1 Macbook air and my HD6xx (650s) which have the same impedence and sensitivity and I had plenty of headroom, though that probably depends on how loud you like your music. I tend to listen to more modern music which is louder than say classical music.

Hi there, long time audio nerd here.

I'm just getting into IEMs so I've been watching a lot of product videos and trying out new stuff. One thing I noticed is that a lot of the talking heads in the IEM world blather on and on about all the minute differences in sets but then go on to say that using the Apple dongle is just fine. So that's how I started out, but I instantly noticed a difference between listening on my desktop setup and with the Apple dongle.

So today I got this DDHiFi unit and instantly it was a very noticeable upgrade to the Apple dongle and put the detail and clarity on par with my other systems.

Yes the Apple dongle is great for what it is and fine for a budget setup. Yes it has no right sounding as good as it does for being so small and cheap. But the difference between that and a better dongle DAC is far from snake oil, even on mid price IEMs.

rant over

Whats funny is that the K612 pro and K702 are probably the closest of all the AKG headphones in terms of frequency response. I could swear I read somewhere that they are basically the same internally.

If I could make a suggestion for the K702s, go to crinacles website and find the graph tool. Select the K702, click the Equilizer tab and hit AutoEQ. Then hit export and load that text file into Peace using the import button. This takes away all the tinnyness.
