I own a JDS Atom amp, and I was wondering if I could lower the computer’s volume to lets say 50 to prevent clipping, and just boost the volume on the Amp. The JDS is quite powerful, for which even the 12 position was uncomfortably loud at 50% computer volume.

Would doing this have any consequences?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys so I had focal clear headphones that worked great on my laptop. Sold them to a local who paired it with a Denon PMA 1600 AMP and now they’re telling me if they turn up the volume high there’s a pop or it feels like the speakers are loose when at like 20hz / when the drums hit. Works fine at normal volume. Any idea what could be wrong? He did try different cables.

Thank you

Not necessarily even good; 'different' I'd say. I never did vibe much with my Bottlehead Crack + Sennheiser 6XX which are almost universally lauded among those who have tried the combo as being a pairing bestowed upon the audiophile community by God himself (of course I'm exaggerating but really, they came highly recommended).

I much prefer the sound of solid state, but undeniably there is a difference between the two; not bad, not necessarily good, just not to my taste. Weirdly though I can totally understand why people like the pairing.

That's definitely a valid concern. One of the main reasons I picked up my SRH1540s was so I could enjoy some music privately while making sure I wasn't disturbing my roommate. I'm that type of person who doesn't want others knowing what I listen to anyway. Nonetheless, the pair looks and sounds great for what I need them for. I still keep the 660S around for more casual video watching, playing games, and for music anytime I'm in our dorm alone.

Don't worry about streaming quality really. Bad or poor audio mixing in certain albums will always be more noticeable. A couple of examples are System Of A Down's self tilted album, and A lot of Avenged Sevenfold's earlier albums. Those will always sound poor regardless of the streaming quality or the medium you are listening through.

Just make it easy, get a portable dac / amp combo and let your IEM's do the rest of the work and you'll save yourself the headache and worry.

It works like ANC, which is inputting the same noise at an alternating frequency cancelling the original noise out (they use microphones to pick up the noise.

So in this case they use an alternating frequency to cancel out each other's noise leaving just the main audio package. So twice as much noise generated but it eliminated itself. The result is basically an emi shielded signal. Huge over simplification, probably using the wrong wording, and my interpretation of the science is probably a bit wrong. But yeah the two separate signals eliminate each other's noise.
