if you're looking at cables I can't recc hart audio cables enough, their modular system is nice, it lets me terminate in any way I want on the fly (assuming I have the interconnect). The cables feel nice, aren't heavy, or get in the way.

A very different thing in a guitar amp. There, the preamp tubes, power tubes, power supply and speaker are all an extension of the electric guitar, much in the same way a bell mute does to a brass instrument.

If our goal in playback is pure reproduction of the recorded signal with as little distortion of that signal as possible (either linear or non-linear), then solid state is where it's at. The likes of Sansui & Yamaha had that pretty much sealed by the early 80s.

If you like the look and/or sound of tubes, that's perfectly fine. They do look hella cool and that can be enough, but we ought not kid ourselves that a tube playback stage is a step toward greater accuracy. Very, very, few are.

Congrats! I pulled the trigger earlier this month. I just bought the ZMF lambskin pads which should be arriving early next week. Gonna stick with the stock cable for now but it's probably going to be replaced at some point. Just too long for my needs.

I have not EQ'd them but they were sticker modded. I've never tried the HD800s so I can't say what they sound like in comparison but to say that I'm impressed is a huge understatement.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

after trying a few different sets of headphones over the past few months, i eventually landed on the HD8XX. i work from home and will be wearing headphones 10+ hours a day, and i play competitive FPS games so i need something very light / comfortable with good imaging.

ive only had these for a few days so please take my opinions of the sound with a grain of salt

so far im really impressed, between the stickermod + Oratory's EQ as far as im aware these are 95+% of an HD800S and the tales of the soundstage and imaging are more than true. these are great for games and they really bring a different "vibe" to OSTs with the separation these can provide (footsteps of doom - Kohta Yamamoto for example) . these are also absolutely the most comfortable headphones ive ever worn. incredibly light + essentially no clamping force, but they still feel solid on my head surprisingly.

to "compare" them to my other higher tier set, the LCD-2C, they're complete opposites but equally good. they're not comparable directly but the combo is incredible.

i bought these used and got a relatively decent deal($650) , i plan on replacing the pads with Dekoni Hybrids (i did give the stock ones a deep clean) and getting a balanced cable (the stock cable on these is absolutely horrendous) but i really can't complain about them as a whole. very happy with my purchase :)

thank you for reading my rambling, hope you enjoy your weekend!

The only thing I own so far that I find better than the XM4’s are the Senny ie600. I also have the ie300, but they are more bass forward and not as clean as the XM4 in my opinion. Nothing beats the ie600 for me so far, including my 660s over ears….. for my personal taste.
