I don't think they care about the exact frequency you can hear, it's probably more general like "high frequencies" or "sounds over 15k hz." Also they play a single tone and they are only testing the presence of sound and not how loud you hear it. So they do not have to be high quality or have a flat frequency response. They just need headphones that can play the required tones.

Do you have the same issue if you use the same amp but a different DAC? If not, I'd try that out first to pinpoint if it's the DAC or the amp.

If it is the DAC, then it's possible that you got a bad unit, so next you could try an exchange.

If you've confirmed that the DAC is indeed "working as expected" then the fact is that you just don't like the sound of this DAC (and don't let anyone tell you "it measures great so it must sound just as good as anything else").

This is what people mean when they say that DACs sound different, not that the FR produced by the DAC is incorrect, or that SINAD is bad (often they measure well by some measurements), but that there are other artifacts in the sound they produce that sound "unnatural" that are not part of any of the standard measurements taken. I wish there was some measurements that could determine this, but I have yet to see one. Objective performance should be used as a baseline for sure, but you still need to actually listen to it.

If you don't like it, return/sell it and get something that sounds good to you.

Ananda is a rather old model and extremely good (in my experience) at handling female vocals, Japanese sweet girl vocals especially. However, it might not be that good for all the rock genres you mentioned.

If all-roundedness is a factor, I would definitely get editions, for it's cheaper and an upgrade to Ananda in my opinion.

Will you please let me know about your impressions when your hiby arrives? I liked the fc5 model, it only has 4.4 balanced output and is a bit smaller than the fc4, though a bit more expensive, probably cause of glass

I suggest installing an equalizerAPO on your computer and setting the preamp in the equalizer to -10 dbs (depending on how much lower you wish the volume to be) while keeping the computer volume at maximum.

This would help to achieve the more control room you wish to have on JDS amp, while not sacrificing dynamic range.

In Germany or where i was years ago firstly use a headphone which was too small. I am someone gifted with the unnoticeable big head problem die headphones… and that headphone was some cheap industrial & medical tank of a headphone. I assume it can only do like one thing and no music

Have you thought learning eq ? here are some of the basics. Crinacle has this tool to create eq presets for your preferred parametric eq app.

Crinacle tool
https://crinacle.com/graphs/headphones/graphtool/

how to use ?
Select your headphones on the list and click equalize. Make your settings (there is even the autoeq button). Click export to get the settings in a txt file (you need the preamp value from the txt file). Apply settings to your parametric eq app

I guess so. Let me guess you never turned the bass up in your phones mix. ? you ran then stock. you never put any EQ on your mix. I find that hard to believe. Cut the mids at all ?

That mid bump in the chart that was posted before would get pretty angry at High dbSPL, right ? which is part of the problem as I see it. and hear it. Go figure.

Nice. : - )
