I’d very carefully cut it off with something very sharp, like a razor blade or x-acto knife. Your can try picking it off with your fingernail too. Anything chemical will likely ruin the pads.

Cutting them off will at least get you by until it’s time to replace the pads.

Acetone would remove it but likely also ruins the foam. Unfortunately I think you'll just do more harm if you try to remove it unless you can shave it off with a razor or something like that but the risk of just causing more harm is very big.

Well that's what having a cumulative -15dB recess in the upper midrange (where most instruments, vocal and synth harmonics lie) can bring... It's dark and bright at the same time because its treble is present but there's a hole in the upper midrange so it makes for an uneven transfer from harmonics into air frequencies. Something the EQ manages to fix and luckily the drivers take EQ like a Champ

Exactly. You might hear stuff like piano pedals or a singer taking a breath and such, but it's not like a super high end headphone is the only thing that enables you to hear these sounds. If it's in the recording, well, then it's in there. That's it. I highly doubt that there's more to hear once you get whatever is described as "summit-fi".

So I have 6xx, sundara and recently focal clear OG. I also have access to hd598, and hd800.

The sundara are really an amazing pair of headphones for the price, and diminishing returns kick in quickly.

Comparing hd6xx to sundara, the sundara are crisper and cleaner, however the mids on sundara are not as full bodied, rich and smooth as they are on the 6xx. So for simple tracks with a mid focus, I usually prefer listening with 6xx. Guitar and vocal tracks like most on privateering by knopfler sound incredible on both, but shine more on 6xx.

I got the focal clear because to me they feel like a mix of the sundara and the 6xx. They are not as narrow as 6xx, and have in my opinion better richer, thicker mids than even the 6xx. Also they do not have the sennheiser veil which is apparent when going from sundara to 6xx. So a nice combination in my opinion.

Based, and double checked. Blues for the Red Sun for example sounds perfectly fine without the EQ, maybe a bit piercing if anything.

Watain’s debut doesn’t gain too much from the EQ either.

Pestilence’s Consuming Impulse I feel does benefit from the EQ, it becomes a lot meatier (IMO as it should).

Ahab’s The Call of the Wretched Seas also benefits more as it’s a more atmospheric album and uses that bass headroom quite well. Without the boost in the low end, it sounds a bit weak.

Again it all depends 😳 I also have a EQ profile where all the changes are 50% of what they originally are. So it’s kind of between that EQ profile and without EQ.
