Mine did the same thing. In retrospect I could have completely prevented it by putting a small amount of shrink wrap right where the braided cables met the ear connectors.

The worst part is the Bluetooth unit they give us has background noise. 😭 The sound quality I was getting with my FIIO's was amazing.

Edit: To add a little salt, I already had to have my UE CIEMs sent in for repair because the center pin of their connector got pushed in. That already cost me $200+

Soo $400+ out of pocket just because their connectors suck?? Omg hell no.

IMHO a Hifiman enthusiast's "veil" is another person's "appropriate amount of treble". I prefer the HD600 relative to the HD6XX but I just find the Hifiman house sound unbearable.

If your budget is around $300, just get the B2 or B2Dusk, which were released like 3 years ago. Nothing coming out at that price point will beat either of those. Also, unlike other things, good headphones don't really become obsolete. For example, the Focal Clear og was released like 5 years ago, and it's still considered great even when compared to the new stuff coming out.

My take on the X is that it’s technically very adept. Moreso than the LCD2. The bass is amazing. Timbre is not as natural as a HiFiman or OG Clear mostly because of the decrease in the high mid/upper treble but a lot of people like the Audeze House Sound. The sound is massive and opaque. I don’t like delicate or whispy sound as much. The whole thing is a lot of fun to listen to.

Just make sure to get the 2021 version or later if you decide to go with an X. They tuned it better after 2021

The Volt 2 should be fine. Its output impedance is a little high at 10ohms (according to Julian Krause's measurements on youtube) so you might get some amp-induced frequency response shift with some low-impedance headphones, but this won't really be an issue with the HD600s. It performs well otherwise, comfortably among the better audio interface HP outs.

Hate to admit this because the 6xx is my first headphone, but yea, that one can feel a bit too bloomy at time... that said, I recently got a headphone that is basically the first ever version of the HD 600, and that veil is not at all present... the bass is punchy but not bloomy, and the closer soundstage of the HD 600/650 makes it much better for listening over long periods of time.

As a baseline, use your quarks to listen to the song until the "I'm okay part"

Here's the original lyrics (no additional details) >Hey, I was doing just fine before I met you >I drink too much and that's an issue >But I'm OK

As you can see, there's only one "hey" rather than two before the "I was doing just fine" starts, and that's because only the better transducer can reveal that second "hey" in the mix. The same with the "I'm okay" part where the better transducer will reveal that there's two repetitions of "okay" after the original line in the form of "okay, I'm okay"

You kind of get the sound around the mic, like that hollow sound or echo from the recording room.

Tidal seems to have gotten rid of that effect. It’s like Apple Music has that raw quality while Tidal masters them to sound like they’re from a studio.
