Honestly, not entirely sure what my ideal sound is, I first bought the aria and wanted less bass so I got the hexa, then the cadenza as my first cheap iem and tangzu as my first planar iem. I got the 6xx as my first ‘audiophile’ headphone so I’m just judging what suits me the most

The arias being the first iem I got into, over the past few months, I have accumulated more audio gear with the shanling m3x and hd6xx being the latest pickups and I’m thoroughly enjoying the new world that this hobby has brought me. The 6xx being my most used item at the moment, I find myself switching between them and the tangzus, and I’ve definitely noticed a difference when compared to something like AirPods even though I’m a noob when it comes to judging sound quality.

I buy headphones for their unique drivers and have an interest in hearing subtle differences in each, so I don't regret it as the amusement comes from learning.

I don't buy top tier headphones as they will still be just another headphone, but I could've gotten multiple for the price of that one unit.

From trying many, I've learned that for sheer music enjoyment and accurate reproduction headphones are limited by their very nature, speakers are more complete sounding and IEM's have better tonality than headphones.

All in all I don't think expensive headphones are worth it, for just sound enjoyment.

Harman will increase the bass quite substantially on the HD600.

So do you want Harman or decreasing the bass?

Neither of these EQs will decrease the bass, both will increase it, Harman above flat, Oratory1990/USound up to flat.

If you don't want the bass boost to be honest the HD600 is extremely close already and there is no need or reason to EQ it.

On PC I use Equalizer APO, for mobile I use a Qudelix 5K.

Android apps for EQ there is Wavelet which is free. You need to convert PEQ to use- you can do this using the equalizer tab on Crinacle's graph tool, and "download for Wavelet". Or Poweramp EQ you can enter PEQ values directly.

The Aeon X closed back by Drop and Dan Clark Audio. Seriously I wasn't expecting them to be as good as they are when I first put them on. I personally find that they have very detailed sound, and I like that they handle sub bass with the same oomph that they handle highs with. Coming from experience with HD650s, I knew they'd have a different sound but I'm still blown away, I know they aren't considered endgame to most but after I get my Stax I think I'll actually be satisfied. I'm sure my headphone collection will continue to grow but I don't feel the need to go more "endgame" then these, truly the best audio experience I've personally had. (Besides Stax lambdas, I'll be having those thanks)

Well it would be boring if every headphone sounded the same. I personally love the 650/6xx because of its tonality, you can listen to music the whole day without fatigue and everything sounds butter smooth. I actually think they’re really unique in that way and no other headphone does this as well as them.

But I found that the best of both worlds for me is the HD800. It has that neutral Sennheiser sound, they opened up the soundstage big time and brought the treble up. Yet it still somehow reminds me of the 600/650, they even managed to improve the superb comfort and take it to another level. Maybe this could be an interesting choice for you, second hand they’re only like 600 bucks. Still pretty steep but they are such a great value imo.

Yeah, maaaaany years ago when I was younger and naive I made the mistake of buying a Nura Headphone, the advertising sold me. But wow, they were SO SHIT 💀 it feels horrible and the sound is catastrophic. I forgot to send it back to have my money back.. I have not touched it more than 5 times in total. And that’s how you lose 300€. Now I feel ashamed of being so stupid at the time.

For me, the build quality of the U12t is good but not the best. I can only compare it to the OG Andromeda.

It's all metal and it feels premium but it could still be better. The face plate part where it meets the body of the U12t is not seamless, you can feel its edge a bit (like a nail file it can gather some dust) whereas the construction of the Andromeda is perfect with no gaps and excess parts.

I would not worry with those issues you've listed down with the latest U12t versions as the cable is a whole lot better than the previous one with better ear hooks. No worries on the hockey puck case, the shell would not dent unless you are not careful with them.

The 2-pin connection can be more wobbly on some models but unless it presents disconnection/channel imbalance it is not a concern and YMMV. If you are careful with them, it wouldn't be an issue unless it's a QC problem. Apparently, it is by design to protect it from wear but maybe it's just their marketing talks. The MMCX of the Andromeda is sturdy with no problems.
