The May looks good but way too big and uses proprietary cable for power. Most expensive stuff uses the same 1 cent part from china, heavy an big on purpose so it feels like quality and most importantly the bullshit marketing that tricks uneducated people into buying. Performance wise the Holo Hay aka the best R2R dac is up there with top performing ΔΣ dacs.

I am not using any mics. I am using measurements and my ears. But the differences are so big that I can't imagine they can be up to 1db more or less here or there. Just as an obvious example the bass of an HD 600 sounds completely different than that of a Sundara when both are equed to flat. The HD 600 sounds like it is struggling and a large part of the resolution in the mids/treble is lost. Or I'm sure you'd agree as well, that an open and closed headphone sound different, even when they have the same FR. Or even more extreme, an IEM and an open headphone are going to sound completely different, even if you manage to match FR.

My S.O found out that I bought new IEMs, and she was passively mad, saying that they all sound the same. I explained to her the differences, and I thought the easiest way to do that was to say, 'The more expensive they are, the more I can hear each instrument.' This led to a fight, but later on, I explained that it's a good investment because I use my IEMs during work and while sleeping. World peace was achieved (for now or til I bought a new one)

I'd love to have a decent sounding speaker setup, but the room geometry and acoustics are terrible, I don't want my living room to look like a recording studio. Plus I doubt my SO would like constant music at body shaking volume. I spend hours every day just melting into my chair.

Doesn't address the lack of soundstage, also speakers just sound more natural as they don't need any compensation curve to sound correct. I tried EQing by ear, but no headphone sounds quite as neutral as a speaker can, atleast to me.

The bass produced by subwoofers also sounds better than headphone bass(has better separation from the rest of the music).

This is all just my opinion as with anything relating to preference. More power to you if you enjoy your setup.

The Grados are sweet. Glad you got plenty of pads for them. The originals can cause a bit of discomfort after a while.

My thought for the Koss phones was simply comfort and portability. Why not have something super light and portable. If your old man laying in bed, the Grados may have a tendency to slip off due to their weight, plus the cable being a bit clunky and stiff. Or they may be completely fine… But for 30(ish) bucks I highly recommend getting some. Why not hey?

The 30i’s would be just as good as any of the aforementioned Koss Cans. I put the “Geekria” Comfort Foam Pads on mine and they are super cosy.
