Typically you may find usb Or optical input, sometimes both, and rca preamp output. These are basic features.

However, you may want balanced XLR input, sometimes you'll find all of the above.. XLR and RCA and coax and optical, Bluetooth (and what version matters for use case, range used, reliable connectivity, ear bud compatability, ... ie BT v4.0 to 5.2, LDAC, apt-x, etc), 3.5mm aux input, location of power and input selects for convenience sake, how easy the selects are to read and use, switches or buttons, tactility, the placement, feel and dampening on the volume knob perhaps, how easy it is to read said volume, overall build quality, remote control, digital display, HDMI input, custom EQ, 5 band, 10 band, Parametric EQ, MQA, or if you don't want MQA - none (and you may save 50-150 doing so), or ability to turn MQA on and off at will (rare), etc, etc.

The possible feature options or combinations thereof are many.

I should have also mentioned I'm incredibly comfortable with buying used headphones. My TH900s cost me around $500 which puts it in that mid range market. The awas used are going around that same price range. I'm also incredibly focused on that higher end market. So that $500 price range starts blending with that lower end market.

JVC Spiraldots++ is what i use with my IE900. I spent way too much money on Eartips in the past and many were fine to great but at the end nothing came close to them in terms of comfort adn balanced sound.

I'm a big fan of the spinfit CP100+ and the Spinfit W1. I don't notice much difference e between them though. I was surprised to see the site linked here describe the feel differently as both are generally grippy, and that makes the biggest difference. These stay put so much better than about anything else I've tried.

My understanding is that it's rooted in studio settings where your using amps outputted to a dozen headphone ends, and you'd just send stupid power to 'all of them at once' and you needed headphones that could handle the higher power. So if you had one headphone plugged in, instead of 6, your headphones don't explode from excess power delivery/

-This could be completely and utterly wrong. I don't know.

I can see I'm out of my depth here, bloody hell! Happy you had fun, but this would be more like visiting a museum for me. Just interesting to observe this world from a slight distance.
