had both the KZ ZSX Pro and TFZ No.3 around the same time and the No.3 are so much better, and the price difference back then was only about x2, which made me less likely to try another KZ set

I guess the top of the line options are Focal Stellia, Dan Clark Audio Stealth and ZMF verite closed. Maybe the new Hifiman Audivina?

haven't used my No.3s in a while now but they're definitely great - really easy to drive, fit my ears really well, V-shaped sound with a strong DD bass but clean and not bloated, highs can get a bit piercing.
honestly my s12 pro and no.3 sound very very similar, with the no.3 fit being a bit better, so I'd say they're still a great set in today's market

Reply to Found at the local thrift store. $15 each and $100 for the lot. Not sure if it’s worth it since I can’t identify some of them… by paigezpp
Imagine having enough money to buy empyreans twice, let alone everything else in that lot.

I won’t deny their sexiness is what drew me into them initially. Thankfully they have the sound to match.

Thanks for your reply, so I guess by your description it is at least 5 times better than regular headphones. If it is like that I would give 5k for that. Also one noob questio, what type of file do you play on it mp3? 320kbps? flac file or just regular youtube or spotify or something?

The Noire is my personal favorite, but I can understand why some people might not enjoy it as much tbh

Dan Clark Stealth and it's not even close. It sounds like an intimate open back.

My time with the MG was short, but iirc while they do sound different, they don't sound that different. If you're comfortable with using eq, I'd say that it would be well worth the price!

I have the Z7M2, they're alright but it's not mind blowing. I really like my msr7b.
I went to Montreal Audiofest this weekend and tried a few. Focal Stellia and Celestee were pretty nice but i fell in love with the Meze Liric. Beautiful headphone, beautiful sound. I'll probably grab them at some point.

Would you say that the MG can be EQ'd to sound similar to the OG? There's somone selling the MG professional for the equivalent of $620 and I am not sure if I should pull the trigger. I prefer a brigther sound.

Those are very irresponsible. Basically Single ended (trs like 3.5mm and 1/4) to balanced adapters short two active outputs, which can damage both your gear and headphones. Yes they sell them but it is kind of like those extension cords that have male ends on each side, very bad to use and can cause damage.

Why not buy an 1/4 to XLR4 adaptor instead? I see ddhifi and some other brands available online.

The tripowin zonie cable comes in balanced and I’ve seen it used with other IE variants like this before. Just cut out the side indicator plastic with a blade and the IEMs click right in Here’s my IE300‘s as an example: https://i.imgur.com/gvcpuNU.jpg

EQ is free, and while resources like squig.link are very valuable learning to E by ear is really handy. EQ APO and Peace are free on Windows, and Wavelet is also free on Android

Despite the huge 60mm drivers they are leaning more towards bright imo, bass is definitely strong when the music calls for it but it's not got the common huge midbass hump.
The first thing I thought when I got them was that it sounded a bit like a grado with even bass.
