Welcome to the headphone world everyone does it! Trust me I’ve bought and returned way too many sets. Phillips x2hr we’re my first “audiophile” headphones and the 599 followed quickly after. I have bought way too many sets after that but for whatever reason I just love my 599s more than anything. Great soundstage, stupid comfy, reliable, solid sound but just a little ugly. I’ve gone deeper down the rabbit hole than a lot of others and I believe this should be one of the first audiophile headphones anyone should get. If these ever break I will instantly buy another set.

Unpopular opinion - but you can beat them quite easily by just going to the used market. There's some things the XS does really well for the price range, but the tonality and timbre are not one of them. Not to mention it sounds like a wall of sound without much nuance.

>I am seriously considering just getting a pair of LCD2's actually and just making sure I am more careful.

I would recommend saving for a LCD-X or buying one used (make sure it specifies '21.) Otherwise, for $790, the OG Focal Clear is a better buy than the LCD-2. LCD-X is also tbh.

OK, maybe I'm just curious to try other headphones. I started to watch a lot of audiophile content and that may be the reason to doubt my purchase

This is snake oil my dude. Forget people on the internet talking shit. Forget about anecdotal evidences on the internet. Social media diets are borderline dangerous to a person health.

Go study on the sources, scientific articles, or keep simple, do the traditional method of eating balanced healthy food and counting calories if necessarily. Get help with a respectable doctor.

Dude, you are the guy who did 48 HOURS of fasting to lose weight.

Do you have any idea how ridiculous this is?

Go ahead and read the posts about burn in and cables improving the sound of a headphone.

This is the level you are.

Get out of social media diets, go to a respectable doctor for help or go study good material about diets.

capacitors are one of the electronic components that makes up a crossover (or other analog filter). "chip" capacitor just describes their form factor.

Nah I own both. I’ve had my 599 for over 5 years I absolutely love them and I use them more than any headphone for gaming. I find them more comfy than my 560s even though they’re similar. The 560 is in technical terms better but the 599 has a pretty good mid bass curve that sennheiser loves to do and I love it. Tbh most of the time I use peace apo and just turn on the premade bass setting. Those things just have the most relaxed sound to them that I could listen to for hours and I do. I own a lot of headphones and the 599 have always been my most thrown on pair. 599 for that price is great. I just think of them as different personally

Crinacle recently (this just passed its 1 year anniversary, lol) did an interview about how his collaborations (KZ CRN/ZEX Pro, Moondrop Blessing 2: Dusk, etc.) kinda came to be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2PrHgoU0Q0&t=249s

Search up Delta Fyre, Hi-Fri Audio, etc. Those people on Facebook that do teardowns/dissections/etc. of IEMs. They'll show you the drivers being used, the dampening measures, the crossovers, etc.

Right now the Simgot EA500 is receiving a lot of hype and due to the removable nozzle, some people are doing tuning foam mods and so on. Some people are also using the removable nozzle of the Moondrop Kato and so on with the EA500.

To replace the filter/mesh/et cetera, usually those are like $2-5+ from AliExpress. So just need to wait a few weeks. Maybe they're on Amazon too, check around there sometimes, you might need to use specific keywords for them to show up.

Usually people use say 400-500 for the size/etc. of the meshes/etc.

See here for a bit more info about tuning foams/meshes/et cetera: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/vpljd3/dioko_update_good_to_see_crinacle_taking_a_more/iekb7li/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/11wu2qo/losing_volume_in_left_earbud_after_only_2_months/jd3q92t/. Check RikudouGoku's posts/threads on Head-Fi and HiFiGuides.

Some companies are also producing DSP versions of their IEMs, but people say there's inherent delays/interferences/etc. with playback and like buzzing/static/etc. with them. See here for some threads about those DSP IEMs: https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/11xvoqu/moondrops_dsps_defective_quarks_dsp/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/1164nep/moondrop_quarks_dsp_not_quite_as_good_as_we/

Here's Timmy from Gizaudio talking about the DSP IEMs issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKs_-d26WXA

Don't forget ear tips. They can make or break the sound quality due to the treble resonances from the insertion depth, et cetera.

These days a lot of ear tips are medical grade silicone and they are often so thin/etc. that the bass is noticeably altered or reduced.

Info about the Moondrop Spring, TRN T, ear tips that can warp easily to break the seal/fit, et cetera: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadphoneAdvice/comments/11spulp/believe_in_audio_improvement_claims_of_eartips_or/jcfo5z1/

Click this sentence for more info on the importance of ear tips sizing, dimensions, et cetera.

Click this sentence for more info on foam ear tips durability and sound changes.

Click this sentence for comfort and everything with ear tips.

Click this sentence for how to put ear tips on wide nozzles (basically aim it at different angles and force it, be careful not to overdo it as it can damage the core/stem/stalk/etc. of the ear tips).

This is how you should use Etymotics or really any IEM or TWS earbud to make sure you have that good/perfect fit for that vacuum seal (necessary for the bass to be properly produced): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KwXEqe6Gq4

Not the original poster, but when it comes to Beyerdynamis the DT 1990 would be an easy choice unless you are treble sensitive. They take EQ really well so you can adjust bass to taste. They slam better than my LCD2C, though to be fair the bass reproduction is different between planars and dynamics. I love the LCD2C's bass for different reasons, it's a much more atmospheric, all encompassing reproduction bass wise, but the DT1990 will just give you that juicy oomph.

Some people can find them tiring though. I personally don't have a problem listening to them for 8+ hours, but it did take me a week to get used to the sound. Didn't like them too much the first few days.

And the build quality is of course very good. They feel very sturdy and look quite pretty as well.

If it is going to be a fair battle it would need to be the DT-1990 but even still I think the XS are better sonically. I think the LCD-X may be your best bet instead of the 2 due to it's wood cups. If you mean the LCD-2C then that would be another good one but if you can save a little more I think the X is the way to go. Just so you know, while I prefer it, the sound of Audeze is much wamer/darker than Hifiman. So they have more slam to the bass but no where near the sound stage.

I personally love my LCD-2's. I had to get a set of Dekoni pads since the stock pads aren't deep enough for my ears, but with those they are the most comfortable headphones I have worn. And the most comically large. They sound fantastic as well. They move shitton of air too, you really feel the music on your ears.
