When driving the Magni from the computer, full volume (or nearly so) on the computer is the right way to set it up. The ALC8-whatever isn't going to get anywhere near overloading the Magni's input at full volume, and anything else is amplifying your computer audio's (considerable) noise floor.

With Americans it's a difficult topic, but many people around the world get their great deals by repairing broken equipment. I got some killer cans this way. With my starving student money I wouldn't even afford the stuff that's considered budget here.

Yeah if it was from a standing position to the ground I'm sure it would not be great but I think off a head to a desk is probably ok. I have heard they are so massive they actually form a crater as opposed to getting dinged. That is where I definitely think Beyer takes the cake. They are made for all day studio abuse.

He is not to be mentioned here. He is considered a 'subversive element' acting to the detriment of the sacred hobby of audiophilia 😆

Make no mistake, I'm no fan of his delivery, I called him out on this once or twice myself. But apart from being unlikable to the general public (and the business side of things) I imagine he doesn't have many fans here for the same reasons a lot of people prefer r/headphones, Head-Fi or their favorite nonscientific youtubers over ASR. Science and snake oil don't go well together. Kinda takes the magical element out of what is for the most part a wild goose chase.

Flame away 🔥

What do people usually use for their sample rate? As high as it goes? Mine is just defaulted to 24 bit 48k but I can go to 96k or 192k or lower. I’ll play around with it

I’ll try running a different device. I’m waiting for the iPhone dongle but I’ll go dig out my old Samsung phone and see what happens

I’ve tried both the audio out on the board itself and the front audio Jack with similar results. I’ll give your other suggestion a go, I wasn’t sure which volume adjustment was correct. I was just turning the audio up on the amp then fine adjusting with windows

The board you have should give you loud, clear, distortion free audio, have you checked the sample rate in windows, maybe try raising or lowering it, also turn off audio enhancements, if it’s still noisy I expect something is leaking noise into the system. Can you try your amp from a different source, maybe from your phone/tablet using a 3.5 to RCA, if that’s clear I’d try a cheap external dac as you could spend a long time trying to find the issue with the pc

What port are you plugging it into on the mobo? If you aren't doing this already, I suggest setting the volume on the computer to the highest it goes and controlling the volume on the amp.

(I don't think you'd have different results with the Heretic, for what it's worth)

Don't listen to advice. Go listen to expensive headphones. And remember you'll need a good amp/DAC to pair with them. If you throw $1000 at LCD2C, throw $800 at a decent amp/DAC, like a Fiio K9.

Seriously though, you can learn a lot through reviews and frequency response graphs but you have to hear headphones. Go to Hifi and headphone shops. Talk to dealers and ask to audition stuff. Some will send you stuff to try. Some audiophile forums out there have reps from these companies that will loan you stuff to try. The best option by far though is a hifi shop that has 100 pairs of headphones out to try.

There are so manyh variables out there. Even saying "I really like bass/midrange and I enjoy hip hop" is not enough information. Even if you added more information its still not enough, because everyone hears differently. To use your own example- you know how you have that ONE friend that looks at your 144Hz monitor and says "I dont see a difference"? Audio is like that.

Go try headphones. Tis the only way

I think they look very handsome. I hadn't encountered these before your post so I did some reading up then bought used mint T60rp with Brainwavz pads. Thanks for the inspiration!

I become even more confused about Sharur every time he’s mentioned here.

You have one person saying he’s a troll: Downvoted

You have another person defending him: Also Downvoted

I don’t know what to think 😂

Yeah I seriously considered these a while back, but decided against them because fit is always my biggest issue with buds. My Sony buds have great sound and ANC, and I find them comfortable enough for a 3 hour ride, but they slip in sweat and the seal breaks, and about half way through the left bud stutters then stops, again because of sweat, I believe.
