I blind-tested, to the best of my ability, my Enleum AMP-23R against an Atom amp (made of plastic!) with Hifiman’s Susvara and couldn’t tell a difference. I have mild hearing damage but it shouldn’t be that bad.

Besides the Susvara, I also tried Focal’s Clear and Audeze’s LCD-5. The Clear isn’t said to “scale” particularly well and I’m not familiar enough with LCD-5 to have heard differences there. This was done in my quietest room, which is acoustically treated and quite silent.

That said, I am not a practiced listener by any means and my audio pursuits are based on feelings of “this sounds like live”. I did this test alongside an upgrade-chaser with more discerning ears and we came to the conclusion that it didn’t make an audio difference but they look or feel nice. Our findings weren’t upsetting, I primarily upgrade for aesthetics and wasn’t aware that it was meant to sound better.

Not quite ringing in my ears but I would get fatigued after a 1-2 hour listening session. Upgrading my amp and DAC did away with the fatigue and I could enjoy music again. Always at safe volumes though.

So I have a somewhat different story - downloaded a song from YouTube about 8 years ago. Stumbled upon it on my phone again a year ago, and tried to find it in better quality. Song, and artist, seems to have been erased from the internet.

Oh well, at least the song is a banger and I have a copy lol.

FWIW I EQ the LCD-5 and have multiple profiles depending on what mood I’m in. So I am a big fan of EQ. I’m more trying to meme the people that believe you can EQ a HD660 into a LCD-5 (believe me I have tried).

And no doubt here! Got them 9 months and they eliminated my desire for other headphones because when EQ’d they’re perfect for me. Happy listening and I hope you get a chance to listen to a pair one day!

Closed/openbacks dont make a difference on that front, I'm also running some chunky/thicc glasses myself.

I'm not much of a basshead - more so than sheer volume and quantity of bass I like mine restrained and NOT bleeding into the mids or bloating, so on days I'm craving for bass my XS + bassboost button on my ifi zen dac v2 makes me very happy. The Sundara is a slightly warmer presentation, with bass slightly less tight/controlled IME.
