I have QC 35ii and just replaced my ear pads. Only cost $20. Feel like new again.

Many say QC35ii sounds better than QC45. I have not tired QC45 yet. Not sure if it is true or not. I tried XM4, but I like my QC35ii better because it sounds a bit more natural to me. XM4 has too much bass and is lack of clarity to me.

I would not concern about companies discontinuing their old models. QC45 and XM-4 are extremely popular. You can easier find them even when they get discontinued. Worse case, go to Ebay and buy a refurnished ones. Replace the earpad and it feels like new again.

My point is that there is no reason to buy a new pair because of "just in case" while you are still enjoying your current one. Sometimes better will come out. Wait until you need one and buy the best one within your budget then. You may end up having a better headphone.

just IMHO

Here is my YouTube one.

The AES does presentations open to the public and archives them here. There is another by JJ that is going to be added soon on signal bandwidth.

For headphone design principles, you can search for the book "Headphone Fundamentals" by Carl Poldy. Toole's book covers headphones to some degree as well.

I also have a copy of "Loudspeaker and Headphone Handbook: Third Edition" that I managed to get cheap and use as a reference when I need to look something up. It doesn't have everything and I don't quite understand everything but it has a lot of info, lol.

Quick edit: Here is another neat YouTube channel. And two videos on the basic backbone of digital audio: 1 2

And intro to Fourier Transform.

This is why I buy everything I care about on CD or at least try to find FLAC to download. I've seen some of my favourite albums being removed from Spotify during the last two years and I expect in a decade my playlists will show mainly gray. A lot wasn't available ever.

oh and do not trust your phone's built-in app, like my Samsung well-being app. If I plug in all the numbers of my IEM w a dongle DAC at max volume into a headphone calculator, it came out to @ 122db, while the app only shows 98db. BIG OOF, blindly trust it gonna make it worse

P/S: I posted this on the other sub, someone asked the same question

So what if you already have the best monitor, gpu, cpu, keyboard, and mouse? And the only thing left is the end all be all headphones for gaming? Huh? Exactly. Nobody is saying good gear, is going to make you pro. At the end of the day, good gear is an advantage. If you up against someone with similar skill and you have better headphones, you will have an advantage. By definition of course. I game on the latest 360hz monitor. Will I beat a pro on a 144hz? No. Will I have an advantage over a similar skilled player with a 144 or 240hz? Yes, I will. Just like oP, I didn’t skim out on Anything. So why buy garbage earbuds or headphones for gaming? He is a hater. Haters gonna hate. It’s what they do best.
