Sorry for hijacking this post, but is there a difference soundquality wise between the SRH840 and the SRH840A, the SRH840 was great, and I liked to recommend them, but since they don't make them anymore and I don't know how the 840A sound it's difficult for me to recommend a potentially different headphone

And what is worse, they think that the "bloated Harman bass" is just mid-bass interfering with the rest of the sound, when it's actually sub-bass concentrated below 100 Hz and only comes out with content that has a great emphasis in that region (in a generally pleasant way, like physical rumble) whereas in the rest of music with low energy in bass frequencies, it's pretty much like a "neutral" Diffuse Field response.

I wonder what kind of brain explosion they would have if they listened to a good flat speakers in a well-treated room and realized that the bass is not only heard, but also FELT, just what the Harman target tries to replicate in headphones.

But hey, being an edgy lords that sails against the current always gives them a feeling of false superiority.

Another massive head gang member! If you don't feel comfortable at first try, sorry but it's not for you. The only solution is to get another headphones. As a giant head myself, Sennheiser were nice, their headphones got enough room for everyone.

It has nothing to do with file format, you are just listening to harmful volume levels. I suggest you lower it because you are going to get hearing damage or even worse, tinnitus.

I like that my new pc with windows 11 has a much more usable volume range. Every PC I've used with windows 10 is like normal volume with my headphones: 2-4, maybe 6% if it's a quiet video/song, but anything above 8 is actually loud. 30+ is plainly too loud and painful.

Now with my new pc 6-12% is normal, only above 16ish does it start to get a bit louder. And I can let it go up to a good 40-50% on those rare occurrences when I'm really enjoying something that demands more volume.

I have to agree. Still figuring out the Bathys.
Sounds "OK" ok the iPhone 14 Pro Max but sounds more "ALIVE" on the Sony Xperia 1 IV. Its perhaps a debate of AAC vs aptX Adaptive in my case.

Playing around with the DAC at the moment and getting some very strange results which warrants more investigation. Tidal streaming from PC vs Sony Xperia yields very audible differences. Spoiler, the mobile phone produces more details... weird.

I thank your left side for validating my whole experience with audio. As far as *I* can tell, headphones make a huge difference, amps/DACs make almost no difference once you have a modestly decent one, and for the life of me I can't tell the difference between almost any of the codecs. I don't doubt that others here have much finer ears than me, though.

I used to think I could tell the difference... until I did an actual blind test and was like, awesome I can save a ton of money now. Or put it all into headphones. Or whisky.
