All forums have their bias (just like news sources) so separating the wheat from the chaff is what you need to do. Head-Fi has better discussions on specific headphones than Reddit given its typical forum layout. But that means it does have more audiophile woo woo like this. SBAF, Reddit, and ASR have their drawbacks too.

There's probably $20 or less in material costs for these things. If you can sell them for $100 or more there's some good profit in that. Don't underestimate the markets that

A - Don't actually know any better and think they're just getting a good deal

B - Do know better and just want the look of a premium headphone without the cost or quality

Try a bio-dyna.

I recommend the EMU Teak.

If you can get the stock pads to fit your ears, I think they are worth trying based on what you are looking for: Bass and are often criticized for not being mid-forward enough. Some complain about the treble - and I notice it on certain recordings - but these are genuinely my favorite headphones.

You could also try the Edition XS.

The extent people will go to make a buck. It can’t be cheap making those knockoffs. And how many actually sell? Doesn’t seem profitable enough. Glad you can return them.

I had the HD 560s but I got the HD 660s and haven’t touched the 560s since :-)

The 660s does everything the 560s did but with a little more oomph and the treble is well controlled. Also, I think the bass is tighter and more refined on the 660s even though it rolls off a little sooner.

To give you an idea: the 560s are a hit or miss with me. Some songs sounded great and some songs sounded plain bad on them. However, with the 660s, I haven’t found a song yet that sounds bad. They’re very musical and less analytical, yet you can still pick out each separate detail if you desire. They’re great all around headphones

I've had my Mests for about 6 months now and they haven't stopped blowing me away. They aren't perfect tuning-wise for me either, but at the same time they've barely left my ears since I got them lol. I honestly love the smaller, immersive soundstage and slight veil they have but I completely understand why you have issues with it. I think the biggest issue I've found is that any EQ ends up destroying the really special imaging they have.

I haven't actually heard the B2D (I was going to buy it but decided I might as well just go to the top) but I know it has a fairly different tuning. I've seen its detractors describe it as cold/analytical, which is kinda what turned me off from buying it. I could be wrong but I believe the B2D is tuned close to the Harman target (which has pronounced mids) while the Mest has an unusual U-shaped tuning. You might just prefer more forward mids compared to the Mest, I definitely feel that they lack the body and warmth that I love from my HD 6XXs. I unfortunatly haven't heard the Diva either but it seems like I'd like it. I'd also love to hear the Traillii someday as I've heard its the king of mids but there's no way I'd ever pay that much lmao.

If I could give a suggestion, the Cayin RU-6 R2R dongle is absolutely magical with the Mest. I'm not the type of guy who's like bro you need a $1000 special DAC to properly enjoy stuff but the RU-6 made a noticable difference. It sounds more "open" while giving some more body to the mids, but it does take away some of the resolution. You absolutely don't need it but it really completed the Mests for me. Good luck with your search, always happy to see another Mestbro :)

I have the 8XX, which is the bastard half-brother of the 800S that the audiophile community keeps locked in a closet under the stairs, and while the 560S is a technically impressive headphone, the 8XX easily bests it in every category of technical performance (and I like the sound profile too, but that's controversial). I suspect the 800S will really impress you, especially since you're listening to classical music.

BUT the question of whether it's worth it is different than whether it's better. It's 10X more expensive. Headphones are a product of diminishing returns, and you will probably not think the 800S sounds 10X better than the 560S. But it might sound 2X or even 3X as good to you. What you could always do is save up the money, and buy a set from somewhere with a good return policy. If you're not blown away, send them back and be happy with your 560S.

Ooohh I can totaly relate to your experience with the sundaras. I have one as well, and it does well when I consider individual components like detail, clarity, and accurate bass/mids/highs. But, I'm just not enjoying the experience together as much as I thought I would, and even thought maybe I expected too much. I'm finding here that a few people have had the same issue. I got the sundaras coming from listening to a grado sr80e for a few years cuz I wanted an upgrade. I miss the grado signature sound that makes vocals 'sparkle', meaning they sound like you're at the front row, and you get the sound of someone singing directly into the mic (amazing sound for so much chaos in treble). So I played around with EQ on the sundaras to sound more like grados by referencing rtings graph. And I've been getting into auto EQ (learned about it from a crinacle video), but I feel you don't have to stick to auto EQ and the harman curve. After EQing my sundaras to fit the grado signature sound and well, it kinda worked! It turned sparkly, and resembled the grado right-in-the-mic vocals, exciting and crisp sound, albeit losing soundstage as voices and instruments sound closer to me.

Yeah so I think I still have a lot that I can do to shape the sound coming off my sundaras. Similar, but different in sequence from you, I am getting dt770 250ohms for closed backs soon and am excited to see if they are more 'dynamic' sounding as you state!

Thanks man I appreciate that and I have a policy if my customer isn’t thinking my hps are better sounding I can return them the way they like or change headbands anything to make them happy and if all that fails money back but I can tell you I never had that ever in the hundreds I’ve serviced - and I’m only getting better as I meet new customers

> If you have all that already, why not top it off with a high end headphone?

You should do that, if that's what you want, will not give you an advantage in a decent balanced scenario though, the other guy with his apple earbuds or even worse, KZ Zest's, will be in the same page as you, maybe will be even in a better spot, judging by CS audio engine.

The one with the better headphones for footsteps will have an advantage.

Answered above.

Good thing Relay let me read deleted comments, if not I'd never new I was talking to the Alpha ruler of them all.
