Didn't need to use any spatial software because the HD800 just does its own thing which is kind of jaw dropping. For more competitive titles, honestly, the HD800/S just simply gives you the information you need, it all simply depends on you and how you choose to act on that information.

Guess I graduated from White to Yellow Belt in Hi-Fu. From left to right, top to bottom: Sony WH-XB910N, Audioquest Nighthawk Carbon, Ollo S5X and Massdrop x E-MU Purpleheart. RME ADI-2 DAC FS provides the power (and a bunch of other stuff if I'm in the mood). I love it and felt like sharing. Thanks!

When playing Battlefield, are you using any eq? Or any Spatial software such as Dolby or THX?

I currently use that $20 PC Dolby eq app for COD. But with “surround” mode off since its a FPS game.

Can I do better on my HD800s?

I've had the same experience with my 800S, I've never liked Oratory profiles but an 800/800S with EQ is my personal endgame, I listened to stuff twice as expensive and it just wasn't as good.

The mid-range really is what grabbed me, the day I demoed them I tried a good dozen headphones and the 800S just stood out with how natural the timbre was.

Yeah, these were meant to be driven out of stereo power amps lol. Luckily with how far technology has come now days, it’s pretty easy to find a solid state amp that can handle them.

These things are also 50 years old and still hold up perfectly today. God I love vintage AKG.

The treble is too hot at times I agree, and oratory's EQ fixes it for me when Im listening to brighter songs and genres and it's so amazing. The resolution really does make some recordings very unenjoyable, I forgot to add that in this review lol. But it's pretty brutal not gonna lie but, I think its worth it when you play beautifully mastered music through them.

Schitt isn't any more or less reliable than other brands.

I have an Asgard 2 and an OG Bifrost Uber that still work. They were bought in 2014.

People whose stuff is fine don't post about it on Reddit or other message boards. It skews perception when every third post is, "My stuff blew up and caught fire on my desk!" when in reality, the failure rate is something like 1 or 2 percent, for example.

This is pretty much bang on. I'm also quite treble sensitive so that 5K spike was the first thing to fix (I actually use oratory's fixed-EQ settings with just a touch less sub-bass) , but once that was done I could see why the HD800 are so well-regarded. Classical and Jazz are just sublime on them.

They're also some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn - they're just so damn ergonomic. Also, even though they're over 100g heavier than the HD6x0, they don't really feel like it due to how the weight is distributed.

The only downside, though, is that I often find that they are almost too resolving. So many albums in my collection are hard to listen to because the HD800 shine a spotlight on a bad recording like no-one's business. They're definitely a "serious listening" headphone for me. For that reason, I still generally default to my HD600 as my daily driver, simply because they do a pretty decent job with everything you throw at them and they're so great for casual listening.
