I'm afraid I'm a fairly promiscuous reader rather than an expert. I usually have multiple books on the go at any one time and flit across genres and periods. Perhaps /r/askhistorians may be able to recommend something.

I've actually read it several times. Certainly I preferred to return to some parts more than others but I didn't find it at all tedious. TBF I also really like Moby Dick, which many people seem to feel is unreadable - so maybe I'm something of an outlier.

There’s a difference between a war and a genocide. Just because the genocided people are fighting back doesn’t make it okay for them to be gunned down.

Well getting local troops was the only way possible. Europeans werent familar enough with this tropic climate, shipping troops over took months and - more importantly:
The British army wouldnt allow the EIC to regularly recruit British people, for obvious reasons.

General rule of thumb: Around 85-90% of the Indian Army were Hindus.
At 1858, EIC Army was at about 360.000-400.000 strength, of which about 40.000 were Europeans.

It’s a great podcast! The fall of Roman Britain is a good episode to get a feel for how the podcast operates and it’s a relatively short episode (may be the first one too, I don’t remember)

I read the headline before the subreddit name so I thought it was r/CFB and read it as “Tight end Lawrence felt bitter shame over the University of Kentucky’s false promises of Arab self rule”

You can say "just like the X" all you want. Fine, there are shared traits. But some politicians ARE worse than others, and the GOP has openly embraced complete manipulation of elections not just through influencing people, but by invalidating actual results. They are actually saying "I will only accept the result of the election if I win. Otherwise I will declare victory anyway and try to stop me - my supporters have more guns". And the platform they push is control of people's personal individual choices with not only an implied threat but explicit threat of physical violence. In America, on a broad scale, this is a low point. Maybe not unique or the lowest, but it's really very low.
Conservatism and authoritarianism go hand in hand. And no, communism is not a counterpoint. Communism is not liberal, nor has it ever been practiced as a form of government. That was fascism pretending to be communism.
And for the record, yes, I believe that could be a real threat too. It's just not currently the imminent threat.

I can hardly believe that someone who has actually read the unabridged book in print to have not found much of the book tedious. Much of the 700+ page text is hard to track as names for Arab persons TE encountered are introduced throughout the book but the ones that have already been introduced are not kept constant. Long passages are then composed of flowery descriptions of high level descriptions of conversations, between persons referred to with non-constant names.

I believe what you are referring to are the limited and trade editions of Revolt in the Desert, which although were abridged versions of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, were not published under that name, so should not be considered competing with the whole work for the definitive status.

They had city states and archived architecture that's lasted almost millennia. Not very different at all from many European states before and during the dark ages

You know it's college football season, when going through my main feed, I read the headline and thought:
"I Didn't know that University of Kentucky had a tight end named Lawrance, and why the hell would he care about Arab self rule?"

Swing and a miss - France ended Arab rule in Syria, Britain had inked a deal giving Faisal control. The Hejaz people's who supported the revolt would be ousted by the Saudis and Jordan is one of the most successful Arab countries. Faisal would go on to rule iraq until his death, the monarchy there being ended by Ba'ath and pan Arab nationalism.

The Aztec had better sanitation than the Europeans.
In fact, they had better access to potable water than London had until mid-19th century.
