I really liked Making Sense of the Troubles by David McVea. It's quite balanced overall, and does an excellent job of explaining the conflict.

I feel like you may have identified a niche area that has not yet been fully explored. Would love to see something on this.

On the Italian peninsula alone, the Roman population was at least 14 million by 200 CE - compare to Great Britain in 1800 CE at around 10 million.
