Just a thought. Do you have messages iCloud synced? Settings > AppleID > iCloud > Show All. It could be that the sync is outta whack. it looks like he would go in and use the disable and delete option, turn it off, restart your phone, turn it back on, and let it sync your current messages on your phone.

It seems to have fixed itself after turning it off and on a few times. Thanks for you help
