Really late to this party but curious what the outcome was? For what it’s worth, I absolutely hate the find my for my airpods. I once lost mine and it was useless.

Same boat I'm in right now. Says that they are outside of the case, with me in my house, and it's been that way since Dec 6. I've pretty much wrote them off at this point.
