I switched to CARROT a couple months ago after the announcement that Dark Sky would be shut down. I absolutely love it, but I'll forever miss Dark Sky's simplicity and accurate forecasts

Dark Sky had a cult following. If you read what meteorologists say it was really nothing special. It was good at telling you what the current weather was but had no magical way of predicting future weather any better that the others. There are multiple weather apps that are just as good.

I love that app’s UI and have used it since late 2017.

The Weather app is great but all of Dark Sky’s features still aren’t implemented. Like Time Machine.

Oddly, Dark Sky is also much faster than Weather at sending alerts.

Aw, heh, thank you :)

Like I mentioned, I do tech support for a living, haha. And I actually really enjoy doing it..! I dunno, it’s just really fun for me to investigate and troubleshoot problems. Plus I like to help people

Dark Sky was awesome. I stopped using it about 6 months ago when I heard the news, sad that it’s effectively being torn apart for scrap. An acrimonious end to a very useful app.

They bought dark sky for the API and that's pretty much it. They don't want to maintain two weather apps, especially one that wasn't made with their design principles in mind.

Not defending the decision, just relaying the (very likely) philosophy.

You see that’s what I said back in the days of 16GB iPhones. I don’t have much shit on my phone, barely 8GB. So I had more than enough space. Then I constantly got messages of running out of space. The. They bumped the base storage up to 32GB. Fine over kill for me but whatever. “You’re out of space. Please free up some space to download and install this update.”

My storage needs still hadn’t changed that much. Maybe got a few more songs.

Then it’s “you’re out of space we’ll unload some apps to iCloud then put it back after the install”

While I’m sitting here like “your system and other are taking up most of my storage.” Why don’t you get rid of some of that useless junk data.

I’ll bet $50 that there’s junk data from my iPhone 6s cache still even on my iPhone 12.

Now I’ve got 64GB and there’s at least 16GB of other and system data. That’s 25% of my storage taken up by what exactly?

I recently switched from iPhone 7 Plus to iPhone 11, and I really dislike the experience. I can’t navigate or type with a single hand on the iPhone 11, and it falls on my face when I hold it with one hand on my bed. Should I switch back to iPhone 7 Plus or get a iPhone SE 2022? I like LCD screen and the classic home button.
