I'm ruling this out to be an iOS bug.. You've said you reset it already; maybe this will convince your mother to upgrade? Phone isn't getting any more upgrades anyway so it's already a ticking timebom..

So what version iPhone is this? You might be in tough spot if you somehow did a software update that wasn’t compatible

Is that how it’s supposed to look like though? Even with reduced transparency, are you sure it’s supposed to fill the entire bottom. I have an iPhone 13 and it it’s rounded, not a rectangle.

Yes now I believe it was because I restored my new phone from a backup. Everything is backed up to my iCloud now since I have so many pics/videos/messages.

I believe the dock is solid gray instead of the typical blurred effect because you may have “reduce transparency” enabled in accessibility settings.
Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency
edit: spelling

It’s the dock, part of the home screen then can’t be removed. Put up to 4 apps in it that you use most frequently and they’ll appear on any page of the home screen

It was a regular message, this person doesn’t have an iPhone.

A lot of android have read receipts and reactions now. A lot of people android users included don’t know. Also their still working out the bugs. Also there’s a new company that figured out how android users can now use iMessage with their app that will be launching soon.

It usually happened when you have low data you can send messages as a regular message insted if iMessage.

Can confirm, this is where you put your 4 most used apps (phone, safari, WhatsApp and messages(texting) in my case). I can’t get rid of it either when I remove those apps from it. I think it’s just meant to stay

Reply to comment by GoodFroge in iPhones and iPads Now Require a Passcode on Every Backup/Sync by comradeAloshy
This has been true since iOS 16.1 and 15.7.1 (local PC/Mac backups need the passcode to be manually/explicitly entered).
EDIT: for emphasis: this only affects local backups to a PC/MAC (wired or wifi). People using iCloud are not affected.
Apple briefly mentions the change here, but the impact (requiring the passcode) isn't explicitly stated: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213489
It was done to fix security issue "CVE-2022-32929 - Bypass iOS backup's TCC protection": https://theevilbit.github.io/posts/cve-2022-32929/

That’s the space for your saved apps. I don’t think it can be removed.

Isn’t that the place where you put up to four apps? I didn’t think you could get rid of it

I’ve yet to see news of this anywhere else nor experience it myself. Maybe it’s only happening to the articles author?

You should try a DFU mode reset and reinstall iOS through iTunes if you haven't already. Try overwriting the entire OS

Way beyond “sms read receipts” it’s an entirely new sms technology that brings them on par with iMessage. However, apple is trying to prevent sms users from functioning properly on iPhone. Some are able to work around it. Others can not.

How would he update iOS on an iPhone model that’s not eligible for that specific version? It doesn’t work like this.
