Have you tried clicking on “filters” in the top left of messages and checked to see if there are any unread messages or failed to send messages in one of the folders?

Apple’s statements on Other System Data are crap. When it’s the biggest space user on my phone and iOS wants me to delete my apps to upgrade the OS, then it doesn’t “clear data when needed”. The only way I could fix this is to backup my iPhone to my Mac using “backup all data”, factory resetting the phone, and restoring from the Mac backup. This cleared up 20+gb for me.

Just a thought. Do you have messages iCloud synced? Settings > AppleID > iCloud > Show All. It could be that the sync is outta whack. it looks like he would go in and use the disable and delete option, turn it off, restart your phone, turn it back on, and let it sync your current messages on your phone.

You mentioned Lock Screen specifically does it to save battery. The phone will change hz all the time depending on what you are doing. If you are doing something on the Lock Screen that needs to be smooth (scrolling) it might reach 120. I honestly I no idea often the screen actually reaches 120. It might be 90-120 most of the time when scrolling
