First off, I have an oddly shaped ear canal and I don’t feel comfortable shoving silicone tips in my ears. I use the regular AirPods and these wired earphones and over ear headphones. The cold Canadian winter can blow battery live of wireless headphones like nothing. These are one less battery to worry about if I’m out and about.

I have tried countless 3rd party versions but none is toned or has the quality of the OEM one.

I see! I don’t use that feature for the wallpaper to occlude the clock text so I’m not too familiar with how it’s intended to work. At one point I thought I saw that Apple intentionally transitions those wallpaper designs between different states when unlocked versus locked, but I’m just not aware enough myself to be able to properly help. I’m sorry!
