Apple purchased phones are unlocked, it’s Best Buy etc that will lock phones to whichever carrier is used first

In Canada they are since around 2015. The Canadian government passed a law that disallows carriers from locking phones, and carriers must unlock any phone (locked prior to the law) for free.

Does this mean that if you buy the phone with CarrierX you can’t use it with CarrierY? To me it sounds like fucking madness, man. Here in Italy we don’t have these things, I think they’re illegal in the whole EU.

Not exactly in the US. BBY sells flex models, while the Apple Store will sell unlocked models for TMo & VZW, but not ATT. All 3 of the tmo 14PMs I got last month were unlocked at purchase. YMMV.

I very much know what to look for and the vast majority of people don’t have an issue. Those that do haven’t set their preferences with photographic styles or may actually have defective hardware. I’m constantly impressed with some of the results I get and so are many reviewers big and small. People with issues tend to be the loudest.

I know they’re unlocked in Australia whether you purchase on a carrier plan, buy from Apple or any retailer that sells the iPhone. Pre sure America is America and they’re locked to carriers if purchased from the carrier and lock to a carrier when purchased from Apple (which doesn’t make much sense to me and feels ancient lol) not sure about the rest of the world.

Great stuff. I praise apple for its lost and found features
Which iPhone model did you end up getting as a replacement?

Generally, no, esp. if you buy from a cellular carrier. Usually, there are certain conditions that have to be met for the carriers to unlock the iPhones... pay off the full balance and be on their plan for 'x' amount of time. Then you have to contact them to unlock the iPhone.
Some state that it will automatically unlock the iPhone after 'x' time but it may not happen automatically esp. if you're still paying the balance through an installment plan.
Buy directly from Apple since those iPhones are Unlocked, even the refurbished versions.

Yes, this was the first thing I do.

That’s not how pro raw works. Apple doesn’t apply any sharpening to a raw photo. It’s in the name. It’s literally exactly what the sensor sees without any post processing.

ProRAW is available for front camera? Don't think so.

Had the same on 13 and 13 pro, went back to 11 pro because of that. IMHO 11 series was the last one without this issue.

It’s a shame that the pictures I get out of my (non-pro) 11 aren’t very sharp or detailed compared to the newer models. Especially action shots, like when riding my bike

I read that tip somewhere as well but the problem with pro raw is that file sizes become way too large unfortunately. :( And, I noticed that it still has the same problem. Maybe just slightly better.

If you don’t have any issues you just don’t know what to look for.

Please don’t give any hope at this point As long as you marked it as lost and signed out the device Did you swap phone numbers as well?

The 11 series I believe (11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max). I love the cameras on my 11 Pro Max and I will be sad when I'm forced to upgrade eventually.

If this is something that really bothers you then you might consider shooting in pro raw.

- It was just getting started with the 12 and not as bad as it is now, so you might find that one tolerable.

Never had any issues with processing and I’ve used nearly every iPhone and tend to critique image quality. If your having issues you first have to play with photographic styles. If all else fails claim a defective phone under warranty. I’ve been more than impressed with the 14 Pro Max.

Why not shooting in ProRAW or use another camera app?

Typically you can take it to another carrier by asking the original one to unlock the phone. Each carrier has their own policy on the criteria to grant the request.
Usually there are deep discounts on the phone to make it worth it. If someone is paying full price up front then it's better to buy directly from the manufacturer.
