Agreed! If Jersey City opens an observation deck (maybe on top of 30 Hudson, for example) that would be a new attraction here with amazing views of Jersey City and NYC. I wish they make an observation deck here, I would definitely visit it.

if there is no last train and a complete stop of service, its 24 hours, even with changes in service. The A train stops being express after 11pm, does that mean its not late night because there was a change in the service.

This... its awesome having a suto-subway line that runs 24/7 from Newark to NYC, but they need to offer better service after hours. All the neighborhoods on the line are building up extremely fast and the PATH still wants to act like people are only using it for rush hour when it has become much more of a subway line... but oh well, at least they are adding longer trains and expanding the platforms

Yeah, I do think the biggest downside to JC is that is way to overly reliant on NYC and Newark for arts/concerts/cultural activities... but hey, at least those places are super close by which means you dont have to shut yourself off from being able to enjoy those things.

low density in Hamilton Park??? It has a similar vibe to Park Slope and a similar pace as well... IDK I always find these comments that JC/urban NJ are a completely different vibe a bit weird when much of NYC has a similar vibe as well once you get a few subway stops away from Manhattan

Hell, its not even a given when living in Manhattan. I lived on West 191st and the amount of times I had to switch to a shuttle bus after a late night out or deal with slow trains after 42nd street was crazy. Literally, after 1am, all the trains are shit and its just as difficult to get around with the same wait times as the path. I take knowing my train will be here in 40 minutes over the "next train in 15 minutes", but its actually 40 minutes of the MTA.

Plus, at least the path is 24 hours... yes you have to wait a bit if you dont make the connection or the subway takes a bit longer to get you where you need to go, but atleast its not Metro North or NJ Transit were if you miss the 2 am train you are pretty screwed until 5. Its not seamless, but you really dont have to consult a schedule. You are not locked out of leaving NY until early morning if you so happen to miss the last train because the Path doesnt have a last train.

I get that it sucks to use the path overnight or even during the day on weekends, but again, unless you are in Midtown-Downtown Manhattan, shitty weekend and overnight service is pretty universal throughout upper manhattan, the other three boroughs and urban jersey near the path train

I moved from Brooklyn during the pandemic for an easier commute to family in NJ and I personally would rather be living in NYC most of the time but I also don't think a 40 min (max) wait is entirely unbearable myself. At least it's 24 hour service and I can still do whatever I want to be doing. It's why JC was a reasonable compromise for me but anywhere I couldn't catch the PATH from and would be relying on NJ Transit trains and buses was not in consideration. It really depends on what your tolerance is for that waiting around late at night and how often you plan to be in the city that late.

There are also buses as people mentioned, the path is just cheaper so I generally opt for a longer wait regardless.

I've never felt unsafe in the PATH station myself, but I think I tend to have higher risk tolerance than some in those situations (or I might be an idiot) so I'm not judging others who do. I've only been here for two years and I haven't increased my trips out at night to anything like prepandemic levels so maybe I've just been lucky. I worked very late nights when in the city so I'm kind of desensitized to 3 am mostly empty subway cars, and the I haven't been on PATH cars that were anything like that.

I can get behind this. I’m a sucker for observation decks.

30 Hudson has amazing views from the top floor. The completely unobstructed view of the harbor to the south is mesmerizing.

1 WTC has the only public observatory with a similar view, but even there you can’t avoid the buildings in the foreground.

I think a skyscraper observatory would be better. I think the developers of 99 Hudson should delist or buy back the top floor penthouses, and turn it into one big observatory. The views would be incredible and offer a viewpoint more similar to a helicopter.
