Do you have stacks and stacks of money? Are you a recent Power Ball winner? Are you as rich as the Kardashians but more classy? If so, Newton's great. Among the best schools in the state, safe, and lots to do. Not sure when rentals are like but if you ever want to buy a house, you will need $$$$. What would buy a mansion in Arkansas will only be enough for a square foot of grass in Newton. Do a Redfin search to see. If you are renting, maybe it will be good.

The problem is around 'medically necessary '. I won't get into the trans debate but you're comparing a life saving surgery to that.

The same reason why I shop at Hannaford even though I have three Market Baskets in my area. Because it’s easier and more convenient, and they have higher quality products. I like to save money but when it comes to food the $10-$20 difference doesn’t matter to me.
Now, I lived on the Cape for a couple years. There are only two supermarkets on the Cape: Stop & Shop and Shaw’s. Which one you pickin???

Damn, and here i thought my $300 gas and electric bill was bad. That's insane.

Shaws/Star Market is pretty pricey too, at least the one near me. I only go to stop and shop for the cheap gas. Them and Circle K are the cheapest near me usually by 20-30 cents per gallon.

Second this, if you can afford Newton, all of MA is probably an option for you as well. Other walkable yet suburban towns around Boston: Watertown, Arlington, Lexington, Waltham. I think parts of Brookline may fit the bill as well, but that city is generally pretty urban.
Avoid Weston, Dover, Wellesley for the most part. Absolutely beautiful towns and extremely wealthy, but they're mostly residential and you wouldn't have much to walk to.

It's a wealthy town. Great place to live if you can afford it. Good luck!

Yes. It should be noted on your bill if it’s residential regular or heating. There’s a bunch of other codes so check with the vendor.

Newton is considered one of the (honestly many) affluent towns in the Boston metro. Very good schools, great place to raise a family, close proximity to Boston, just expensive is all.

I have seen guys at the one in Brockton with long hair. They looked pretty miserable with a hair net on. Not sure if the rules are uniform across all stores.

Yes Newton is one of the premier towns in Massachusetts and probably the United States for that matter. It will tick all of the boxes. No disrespect intended but good luck affording this place

Hope you have tons of money. Most people can't afford to live in Newton. It is a very affluent community.
If you can afford Newton, I would also check out Wellesley and Sherborn.

Good schools but expensive. When you close on a house there the town delivers everyone a WBUR (local NPR) tote bag.

You can add Shaw's to that list too. I do my shopping at MB and items such as paper towels are at least $3-4 more. That is a huge increase.

Taking two kids to market basket is a nightmare with how crowded it is. I like being able to shop without it being a bumper car race. :)

Are you apologizing for having a car?

When I lived in Beverly I could walk to Stop & Shop in a few minutes or drive there in like 2 min. I imagine proximity is the common denominator here for most Stop & Shop-ers.

(Not the op)Would the “residential heating rate” be specified as such somewhere on the bill or account? Thanks!
moisheah t1_j3cb2vz wrote
Baseboard electric heat. (And in our case old baseboards in a very old house) Based on previous years I expect our next bill to be at least that much if not more.

Same, ran mine all winter last year and they work fine below zero. Not even the cold weather models. Gets less efficient, but still better than baseboards.
A good HVAC installer will match the capacity to your house size so you’re covered at any temp.

I like it for smaller shopping trips because it has a better selection of products than other nearby stores in some categories such as no salt added products. I also find it more comfortable to shop in because it's generally less crowded, has a simple store layout, and has fast checkout.
nattarbox t1_j3cakyz wrote
You gotta get rid of those baseboards asap.
Get some minisplits if natural gas isn’t an option.

70°F is equivalent to 21°C, which is 294K.

I work at BWH, I'd check your parking situation at work. Idk if you are an incoming resident or not but BWH parking isn't cheap.
