I'm not in that area but am in the state.

I live in a small town that is near a small city. I would LOVE to have a local coffee shop to stop by and get a coffee and muffin/bagel/scone etc. A nice comfortable place to sit and read, socialize, play a game and enjoy the coffee would be great. A lot of people in my town have commented similar things on social media.

That being said, I know that for myself, and I suspect others, I would end up going to a place like that MAYBE once per week. I can not justify $4 for a cup of coffee, a $5 muffin, or even a $15 freshly roasted pound of coffee. I have gotten used to and come to enjoy the supermarket coffee that I make in my percolator at home.

I wish you all the luck in the world. As someone else mentioned brand loyalty is very strong. And more so, LOCATION loyalty when it comes to attracting the daily commuters that would really drive your business.

Leominster is a bit better than Fitchburg. I think of Leominster as a firmly blue-collar town (with that one random neighborhood up in the hills with giant homes), and Fitchburg as being run down.

That being said, I lived in downtown Fitchburg for a year and it wasn't that bad. Definitely a seedy town, but seedy by Massachusetts standards. Not uncommon to get asked for money at night, but I never really felt in physical danger. Northen Fitchburg gets much more suburban if not downright rural and has some nice quiet neighborhoods (especially around the high school).

Tons of towns are Fitchburg would be a fine choice, think Lunenburg or Townsend maybe. Rent should be cheap, but as some advice from me to you? As a 20 something, unless you're deeply introverted, you will be in agony living in those sticks out there.

  • $500 x 1 payment = 500

-vs.-

  • 70 x 12 months = 840 x 2 years = 1,680 x 2 more years = 3,360 x forever = $$$

No, I think buying is your more affordable option. It's just the upfront cost seems to catch people. One is an endless money pit, while the other is a short-term loss with a long-term gain.

Sure, if you can have that discussion without implying that you are grooming people or introducing them to pedophiles or sex workers, you can have that discussion respectfully.

That said, I have yet to see anyone be able to have such a conversation that is not rooted in bigotry or homophobia and the stereotypes associated.

Calling an entire group of people "pedophiles" is wrong and I understand why they might get booted.

However, I think we need to be open enough to debate whether it's a good idea to have drag queen story hours in local libraries or schools. That could be a good discussion as long as we keep from straying into the "crude stereotypes" territory.

I think the same can be said about discussions regarding race, crime, depression or anything else that occurs in the commonwealth.
