Reply to Thinking about a move to Mattapoisett. Anyone from around that way have anything good or bad to say about it? by bassistmuzikman
I grew up in wareham the crappier town east of it but then lived there with friends from the tri town for around 6 years. Mattapoisett is special and beautiful and chill and I can’t wait to move back one day. Kids are spoiled cause it’s a rich town but it’s such a great place between being right on the ocean, Mattapoisett harbor is great, you’re not far from Boston or providence, New Bedford is up in coming in the downtown area for some night life and Mattapoisett has woods as well. School system one of the best in the state, and the inn at shipyard park is an awesome historic restaurant and Inn. On the go is the best sandwich place around and Turks seafood is the best seafood/sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to.

A town clerk can't bash you over the head and not get sued.

This is going to be a controversial opinion but no. Public employees are paid by the state and their contracts are the responsibility of elected officials. If they want changes to contracts they need to convince the local populous to elect people who will raise their pay/give them better working conditions.
Additionally, if they could strike they essentially have infinite leverage. Closing schools or not having first responders would devastate the community so they’d have to capitulate regardless of their demands.

Here's an opinion piece on why it wouldn't be good to allow teachers or other public employees to strike. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/01/22/opinion/public-school-teachers-there-can-be-no-right-strike/

All public employees are covered by qualified immunity. It’s just that nobody sues the town clerk for violating their civil rights.

If it was truly a Big dig relic, it cost a $100 to make but it was probably sold for a dollar, then the taxpayers picked the rest!

The back says , Barnes and Noble distributed it. Why did I buy it? Why keep it? It's a running gag in our family at this point. I also just threw out 2001 box of Wheaties with the Patriots superbowl pic, lol
