Thanks everyone for the advise. Turns out the thermostat I bought was also bad. A friend told me to try connecting the 2 wires that go to the thermostat and the heat came on. Getting another new thermostat now.

All the teachers contracts are public record if you Google "(district) teacher contract" you can find the salaries. I found it yesterday but not right now. The algorithm is swamped by the strike.

But If I remember it correctly to make the 85k the people against the strike are whining about. You have to be a teacher for 8 years with a masters.

Yes. Part of my kitchen is cantilevered over the back yard with no foundation underneath so it is always a few degrees colder than the rest of the house. This morning at 9 am it was 47 degrees in the kitchen and 64 degrees in the dining room where the thermostat is.

The dilemma, should I pay thousands to add a foundation or get takeout on the few days per winter that it is a real inconvenience.
