I go to a smaller university, and it’s strange they will report when students pass away from heart attacks or natural causes, but when one of our students takes their life (whether that be on campus or at home), very rarely is a school-wide email sent notifying us.

I can’t get accommodations in college without jumping through a hundred loops and filling out a six pound packet even though I had a 504 plan in high school, and have endless documentation for my ADHD induced by PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, and OCD. At that point I gave up.

For a student considering taking their life, the last thing they’re doing is jumping through hoops and taking the time to fill out that much information. If our college was the size of WPI, our rates would be on par with theirs which is sad considering how much smaller of a school we are. I apologize for the rant, it just pisses me off.

You should know, that the moderators can see the post you delete.

I bring it up because 1) many people reported your post. 2) because we have a few people who wrongfully think if they delete it later, there will be no consequences.

I am going to leave things "as is" for now. Because, sure, you took care of it yourself. But next time, what you say and do, is going to matter.

Until I was in my 40's and went there as a parent escort for a Scout Trip I always thought that those huge turrets with the large 16 inch guns just sort of "sat on top of the deck". I thought they sat on a kind of turntable and they brought the ammo and powder to them as needed.

Never realized that they were large multi deck structures that go deep into the hull and that the whole thing rotates. You cannot even see most of what rotates as it is inside the ship. Still amazed how they got the shells and the bags of gunpowder from the magazine (where you certainly dont want them to explode) up to the guns.

We went with my brother’s troop one winter…big. mistake. The heaters, were not quiet, neither were the 3-4 other boy scout troops who we were sharing the bunk space with, on top of the whole space smelling pungently of diesel. Suffice it to say, while touring the ship was entertaining, the experience of sleeping (or trying to sleep) on this behemoth in the winter - would not recommend. (-5/10)

Thank you for saying this. Mental health crises on college campuses remains a serious concern. I myself like many others have lost friends to the tragedy of suicide and one of those tragedies occurred in a dorm environment. The demand for performance, social isolation within crowds, lack of academic support, bleak living conditions, and absence of substantive emotional connection or uplifting community relationships is traumatic for students at any stage in their academic careers. In the last 10 years, there have been 14 suicides at just one local college campus, with no publication due to "privacy concerns."
