I hope the have a video camera because it's going to be hilarious watching Meth Matt trip over this and beat himself up trying to steal the register.

Several stores in Toronto started leaving their doors open at night and cleaning out their stock because the meth heads were smashing in $5000 windows to get to the empty cash registers. It was weird walking past an empty but open store.

And yet the meth heads would smash their windows anyways because meth.

Place I worked at would leave the empty cash drawer open over night. If someone broke in then replacing the door is relatively cheap (and can be fixed same day). If they break the cash register then it costs significantly more and we can't do anything until we get a new one which could take a couple days.

Unfortunately, not uncommon in certain parts of the US, at least. Pretty common in a lot of cities to just leave your car unlocked, or the windows even down, so that they just rummage around your empty car and leave it alone.

I used to work at Gamestop and when we closed we leave the register open with only the change in it, all the bills are counted and put in a safe. It's much cheaper to lose a few bucks in change then buy a new POS register drawer.

My parents ran a liquor store in the poor part of town in the '70s. They always left the cash register open after closing. One of their friends scoffed before he opened his own small business on the edge of town and said he would always lock his. A month later he walked into my parent's shop bitching about how some redneck meth addicts tore apart his empty many-thousands-of-dollars cash register apart.
