For me it’s when a character answers a phone call that entails a certain level of urgency and the character responds with: “Slow down, slow down! I can’t understand you”……I have received some incredibly traumatic phone calls regarding really intense life events in my lifetime and I have never once had to say that. “Calm down”, maybe, “Speak up”, maybe, but the amount times it’s shown in movies you would think that every human is conditioned to respond that way. Even really good movies like ‘Goodfellas’ or ‘Boogie Nights’ emphasize this trope. I’m curious to hear if there are some other tropes that you find really irritating that aren’t necessarily SUPER obvious (like the nerd getting the completely out of his league dream girl is a classic trope that everyone knows) but seems to appear in a substantial amount of movies……..
