Ever since my discovery of this masterpiece right around the time Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was being advertised, it's been one of my favorite films, and as I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate it far more regarding the writing and everything. I mean, everything about this film is top tier filmmaking
Indy is one of the best cinema protagonists/heroes and Belloq may be one of the best villains. "You wanna talk to God...? Let's go see him together...I've got nothing better to do...". For all of the larger than life stuff that Indy does, he is still just like any of us. Just a regular dude, just a regular person that is the only one crazy enough to do the stuff he does, well Belloq may be an exception to that but he paid the price.
On top of that hero and villain aspect of the film, the fact that Indy and Belloq are pretty much on opposite sides of the same coin, everything else about this movie is phenomenal. From all of the fights and action sequences, all of them obviously practically done, with awesome stunt work, and it tells a great story. What I do find funny though is how Belloq and co were fucked regardless, because they were naively doing everything wrong, which got them all killed in the end, and Indy didn't have to do a thing.
I really have Indiana Jones 4 to thank for introducing me to Raiders of the Lost Ark. Because again, right around the time that movie was being advertised, RotLA, ToD, and TLC were all being advertised as a collection to get, and that is how I discovered the world of Indiana Jones
