One thing in Die Hard always bugs me...

It's Christmas Eve, and I'm watching Die Hard, because, it's Christmas Eve. It's always bothered me that when John gets to the front desk and asked for Holly McClane, the desk attendant tells him to check the computer, but a few seconds later says the Party, "They're the only ones left in the building." Why the f did he make him go through the computer? I know it was so we'd see that Holly is using her maiden name, but it always seemed like a dick move to me.
